One week left to help science students!

There's now one week left before the end of this year's DonorsChoose Challenge here at ScienceBlogs, and those of us involved this year just got some good news. SEED has generously donated $15,000 (or $715 for each participating blogger) for us to distribute among the projects as we see fit.

That means that this morning I was able to fully fund two proposals ("Yuck... Hey... That is Pretty Cool!" and "No Bones About It"), all thanks to SEED. There are still two other rather substantial projects that need funding, though, one asking for a disarticulated horse skeleton and the other for a model human skeleton. They require a lot of help, and if you can spare some cash during the next week please consider donating.

If you do donate $10 or more, don't forget to forward your receipt to scienceblogs@gmail.com. You can win some nifty stuff like a subscription to SEED, flash drives, exclusive Sb mugs, and other stuff. Some people who have donated through this blog have already won some of these prizes, so it's all the more reason to contribute!

Also keep in mind that if those two projects are fully funded by the end of the month I will post a sneak-peek of my book-in-progress. Would you prefer to see the chapter on whales, or the chapter on the evolution of birds? It is up to you, but only if these two projects are fully funded by October 31st!

Before heading off to the Charleston Conference last week, I blogged about the big announcement of Pierre Lassonde's big $25 million donation to York to found the Lassonde School of Engineering.
With hundreds of seemingly worthy charities out there, how do we decide which ones to donate to? Even if we eliminate charities that aren't effective, there are still too many choices, and too little money, to donate to all of them.
This year's DonorsChoose challenge is doing pretty well, with the total standing at a bit over $2,200. Thanks to all who have donated thus far.
As you have no doubt noticed, the annual DonorsChoose fundraiser is under way, raising money to help school teachers and children.

Donated $10, awaits book chapters. With a look of impatience.
