What's the Matter With Virginia?

I grew up in Virginia, and unlike transplant George "Macacawitz" Allen, I've never been pollyanish about Virginians' attitudes on race and religion. But what VA Republican State Delegate Frank Hargrove said in a recent interview was shocking (italics mine):

There were furious denunciations in the General Assembly after a Virginia legislator stated that black people "should get over" slavery.

Hanover Delegate Frank Hargrove made the comment about slavery in an interview published Tuesday in The Daily Progress of Charlottesville.

In the same interview about whether the state should apologize to the descendants of slaves, Hargrove wondered aloud whether Jews should "apologize for killing Christ."

Alexandria Delegate David Englin, whose Jewish ancestors immigrated from Nazi-occupied Poland, criticized Hargrove's comments in the House of Delegates.

Hargrove then told Englin that his skin is a "little too thin." Other lawmakers gasped and groaned in disbelief.

Just in case you're wondering, Hargrove is also pro-moments of silence in schools, anti-abortion, anti-gay marriage, anti-union, pro-charter school, pro-tution tax credits, and anti-estate tax. Sadly, Hargrove's prejudice can't be viewed in isolation: it has to be viewed as a kinder, gentler form of "massive resistance."

Hargrove is an example of white trash of which Virginia has some good examples, mostly south of the Occaquan.

Look, the democrats are in charge.

When are they going to end the war?

Quit evading the issue.

When are the democrats going to end the war?

They control the money?

Either they end the war, or they will be out next time.
