And a Beannachtai na Feile Padraig too! (I've left out the accents cuz MovableType eats them). Tomorrow, in Boston, we celebrate one of the goofiest holidays EVAH!
No, I don't mean St. Patrick's Day--which is the Irish Purim*, and has perfectly...sensible traditions associated with it. I mean Evacuation Day, which celebrates the retreat of the British from Boston after an eleven month siege. That, and that the British decided not to burn the place down to the ground upon said leaving. Of course, Evacuation Day--a nice secular holiday--just happens to coincide with St. Patrick's Day.
What a coinkydink...
*Not really, but you have to like holidays that feature much drinking of various beverages.

I am (half) ethnic Irish and I grew up in a city that was as Irish as the Blarney Stone itself. When I was a teen armed with a false ID and a strong sense of purpose (that being to get drunk with my friends) we'd cruise the bars, starting on or near Madison, Lark and State (where I generally lived…

I've been swamped lately, learning to manage my new commute, and being overwhelmed by my new job. So I've been a bit lax about the blog; I've missed three weeks in a row for the friday pathological programming; and I haven't been posting my friday random tens. I don't have time to do a FPP post…
I rather doubt Movable Type eats the accents. This topic recently caused Martin, with Pee Zed's help, to fix things so it all works much better now.
See the comments in I'm Praised in Romanian, I Think for the original discussion (starting from, again, a complaint about accents).
