That's not Willow!

More like this

OK, I admit, Friday Fun a few days late... In any case, last Friday marked the 20th anniversary of the premiere of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Yes, March 10, 1997 marked the very first episode of one of the greatest TV shows of all time, and certainly my personal favourite. Although I didn't start…
I did this last year and the year before and it seemed like an interesting and maybe even useful thing to continue this year. Trends in my reading this year? An increase in books on social media and a bit down in terms of science and fantastic fiction. A lot of that has to do with working on the…
Update on the burgeoning Jane Austen massacre genre: you knew Pride and Prejudice and Zombies was coming out and generating unforeseen (at least by its publisher) interweb buzz. Subsequently we learned the book is to be followed by a movie produced by Sir Elton John, the amply titled Pride and…
I've been doing this for a few years now, last year, 2008 and 2007 and it seems like an interesting and maybe even useful thing to continue this year. I really enjoy seeing other people's reading lists (like here, here and here) and enjoy adding my own to the mix. So, below you'll find a list of…

you've never seen that before? I thought you were a FAN, for shame.

I saw that a few years ago on a VCD given to me by a student. I wouldn't have known where to find it then, but you can find anything on YouTube these days.

Mhm...I saw that at a Buffy Sing A Long special. I soooo very glad that they found Alyson Hannigan.

I got this off of Usenet oh so many years ago.

It's...different. I wish no ill towards the actress that plays Willow in this but I'm glad they went with Alyson Hannigan in the end.

.

Wow, I've watched all seven seasons until my machine is trashed, but I never came across this before. Sweet!

At first I didn't think that was "Darla" either, but her voice is unmistakable.

Being a longtime fan of both "Buffy" and "Sailor Moon" -- and knowing the long list of characteristics audiences have found common to both shows -- I found it amusing to note another one here. The second vampire says he goes to Crossroads, which is the name of the school featured in "Sailor Moon." I mean, I don't want to engage in IDiot-like a posteriori statistics here, but that's not exactly a common name for a school...

Find of the day PZ, thanks. My daughter and I bonded to that show. I have sent the link along to my rocking engineer-grrrl.

Oh look. Spam!

The sound has died on my computer for no reason because I'm like a windows user, so I can't tell how good an actress she is, but I think the proto Willow is hot.

I've seen a fair number of complaints about Willow's actress. To be honest, I suspect most of the reaction is simply because she's *not* Alyson Hannigan.

I've seen her before in a couple other minor roles. She's a good actress, but she's not Alyson Hannigan.

Thanks.

I believe fake willow is that chick who played the "ugly" stepsister in "Ever After" with Drew Barrymore.

You all do realize how white this show was, right? I mean, come on. Not one major character was anything other than lily white. The creator's idea of "diversity" apparently was limited to including a couple of lily white British guys. The only black people I ever saw were villians or two-dimensional less-than-secondary characters. And there wasn't even one Hispanic. This was supposed to be set in southern California! Since when do you not encounter Hispanics in southern California?

You know, if this had been the cast make up of some other show that had been created by a conservative, you'd all be condemning it and him as racist. But, well, BtVS has witches, lesbians and emasculated men, so it gets a pass, right?

Oh, for goodness' sake, everything's about playing political gotcha with you troll-y dudes. You can't even enjoy a cheesy pilot without making some idiot point about "liberals." Principal Wood was black (and my wife was totally hot for him), so was the slayer with the really awful fake Jamaican accent. Jenny Calendar had a Romany background. And I think Principal Snyder was Ferengi.

Buffy got kicked out of her urban LA high school, and moved to a fictional town called Sunnydale. How do you know it isn't supposed to be Simi Valley?

Like I said: two-dimensional less-than-secondary characters.

Jenny Calendar had a Romany background.

Which paled in comparison to her, well, paleness.

And I think Principal Snyder was Ferengi.

Oh, well, you got me there.

A quick Wiki check shows Simi Valley to be almost 17% Hispanic as of 2000. Likely more now.

But realistic demographics hardly matter to "equal opportunity" leftists.

Jason is funny. Whenever we need a right-wing cartoon to pop-up... there he is!

Thanks for the giggle.

" Jenny Calendar had a Romany background.

Oh, now Jason's trying to strip someone of her ethnicity, because he's decided she looks too "white."

"A quick Wiki check shows Simi Valley to be almost 17% Hispanic as of 2000. Likely more now."

And now Jason advocates racial quotas for television shows. I thought so-called conservatives were against that sort of thing.

I think Sunnydale was in Northern Cali. At least that's what I always assumed.

Also, Principal Wood was not 2 dimensional. He was one of the most important characters in the last season.

Jason also advocates quotas for commenters on his blogs - 100% favorable to him.

"I think Sunnydale was in Northern Cali."

I always got the impression Sunnydale was in Southern CA - close by or replacing Santa Barbra. Characters usually drove to LA but when Giles went to Oakland to pursue a lead on Buffy (during the first episode of season three) he took a flight.
