This is excellent, but I have a request that I hope Roy grants someday — my personal favorite is "America" from his "Faulty Intelligence" CD. Trust me, it's awesome.
Aww, heck, they're all good. I also want to see him on The Daily Show, and playing on the White House lawn outside GW Bush's window.

I've been swamped lately, learning to manage my new commute, and being overwhelmed by my new job. So I've been a bit lax about the blog; I've missed three weeks in a row for the friday pathological programming; and I haven't been posting my friday random tens. I don't have time to do a FPP post…
The dwarf planet formerly known as Xena has been renamed Eris, and it's companion has been named Dysnomia, and Phil finds something funny: a guy who thinks renaming planets after discord and strife is a moonbat plot to mock the Bush administration. Seriously.
He's nuts. War and chaos don't come to…
Daniel Dennett just wrote an article on chess-playing computers and Artificial Intelligence, and a few bloggers are already talking about it. I'm sort of surprised that the concept is getting so much attention. To me, the answer to the question, "does a computer that can play chess demonstrate…
I like this guy. Thanks for the link.
Roy's fantastic! I'd love to see him perform in person some day.
Slightly off topic...did you see today's news about GWB's colonoscopy? I wonder if they'll find Tony Blair up there...with John Howard and Stephen Harper.
With a name like Zimmerman, you know he will make good music with good lyrics.
Saddam Shame he hasn't been hired for a USO tour.
I wonder if Tom Lehrer, secure in his retirement, has had a chance to hear Zimmerman. He's definitely the heir to the man who wrote "Werner von Braun."

Oh, here we go:
Well all right then.
I love this'n. Had three of his up on the Guitar today. Just stumbled into his stuff one day. Faroukin' hilarious!
There's so many of my family members who will NOT get this. But, I will link it anyway! Thanks PZ for posting this!
And a huge thank you to anyone who supports Roy Zimmerman's work and PZ Myers' work!
Great link.
Have you heard Tom Lehrer - The Vatican Rag. Quite funny.
Good stuff, but I found myself fixating on the strange transparent microphone...
According to the schedule, Zimmerman is going to perform in California. http://www.royzimmerman.com/schedule.html
It makes me wish I were in California.
he sounds quite a bit like Phil Ochs. He has the singing journalist thing down well.
One of my Zimmerman favorites is "Chickenhawk", especially the line about "why did the chicken cross the road".
Country Joe has a good song about Iraq, "Cakewalk to Bagdad" here,

The Asylum Street Spankers have "Stick Magnetic Ribbons on your SUV" here,

Speaking of which. . . .
Holy crap, he's in Santa Monica tonight! I don't have anyone to go with. I need a young female companion fast! I don't think I can get anyone to go with me this short-notice (yeah that's my excuse).
Don't worry, that's not the microphone, that's a pop filter, to keep his bilabial plosives (y'know, B and P) from making a loud pop. The microphone itself is a side-address large-diaphragm condenser (the most famous being the Telefunken U47, if you're a Zappa fan), which you can see in front of the pop filter. That's the type that is generally used for studio vocal recording, and is particularly sensitive to PoPPed Peas, hence the pop filter. Kinda weird to be using one of them in a live show, but what the hell.
Um, so, what was the subject?
Oh yeah, Roy Zimmerman. Right. The fact that Tom Lehrer is still alive while Roy is making this kind of music pretty much disproves the whole idea of reincarnation. Or something.
Thanks for the link/lead. This guy is great!
My personal favorite was "what if the Beatles were Irish"? Fell off my chair several times.
I still consider Abstain with me to be his masterpiece. The tortured screech of repressed urge at the end is fatally hilarious.
