Here's Drake Bennett:
In a set of experiments carried out in 2005 by the economists Nina Mazar and Dan Ariely, of MIT, and On Amir, a marketing expert at the University of California at San Diego, subjects were given a timed test of general-knowledge questions and paid for each correct answer. They…
Actually it turns out that this is part 3! But I'm not going to revise the title now. Part 1 and Part 2 refer, as does some digging.
[Update: this made the [[Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/2009-12-28/In the news]] ]
So, Lawrence "beany" Solomon does me the honour of a full-out assault. I'm a bit…
Last fall, Mr. Rosaulino Montano, 46, a worker on my campus at the George Washington University, died when he fell seven stories while installing windows on a new $75 million residence hall. Mr. Montano was an employee of Engineered Construction Products,  and because his work-related death…
I never knew Brian May wrote that...
Via NASAwatch we find the following
..."We will find what we believe are the lowest priority half-billion dollars in content, and we'll extract it, across the agency," he says, stressing that does not mean programs at the core of the redirected U.S. space…
The Deep is nothing but astonishing stuff. I'm thankful I live in a time when dinosaurs and pterosaurs are more interesting than ever, when we've got the machines to bring back those beautiful pictures of otherworldly deepsea organisms and when we've started to unravel things like the deep similarities in development of organisms. It's a wonderful time to have an interest in science.
Wilford, is that you?
Actually, it looks unnervingly like one of the Martians from "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen". How big is this thing? More importantly, does it have Heat-Rays?
Here fido
Is that a crucifix on top?
Looks like a used condom with googly eyes stuck on it.
Damn, BDC beat me to it. Probably stole the margareen, too.
Is that a larval stage? Or an adult??
It looks to me like an X-ray picture of Dubaya's head !
I can't wait till I'm old enough to be the cranky old guy yelling get offa my lawn!
It reminds me of some Nintendo monster or another. The unholy spawn of a Metroid and an Octorok, maybe.
Hey guys! Apparently I'm a huge geek!
I'd say it looks a bit more like Mother Brain than a Metroid. I can see the Octorok though.
Beaten to it, the first thing I thought of was "Metroid".
Sven, it's an immature post larval stage. Here it is showing its trick of turning itself into a ball. Google turned up quite a few hits. I learned that it grows up to 200 mm long here:

Its eye stalks are bioluminescent, as seen glowing in the picture.
...." Come.. BACK here...little.. rahh-bbit...."
The publisher of The Deep, the University of Chicago Press, has a much more substantial gallery of photos on its website for the book.
Been to Liberty Meadows, eh?
