I would not want to be a judge for that award

The NCSE has announced a new award, the Upchuckies, for the most nauseating creationist of the year. Their first slate of competitors was about as disgusting as an old cat box, more revolting than a snot bath with fecal chunks, and included Al Jazeera (bleh), Ray Comfort (gag), Casey Luskin (I think I'm gonna…), and Don McLeroy (huuuuuurl). Jeez, just reviewing their records would be an unpleasant experience in sleaze, slime, and stupidity.

The "winner" is McLeroy. I don't have a clue how they made the decision. Maybe they just weighed the puke buckets placed in front of their CVs.

Hagfish are gaining popularity in Korea by the minute! Caravalho Fisheries is now trying to develop a live market for the "primitive and somewhat disgusting eel-like creatures". About 5,000 pounds of hagfish, peacefully coiled at the bottom of their tank, were shipped to Seoul, where they should…
The New Humanist hands out a yearly slap-in-the-face to the most deserving noisy believer of the year — last year's winner was Sarah Palin — and this year they have a full slate of worthy apologists for superstition. It's an internet poll, but who should win this one isn't at all obvious — they're…
For a lot of people, I seem to have become the go-to blogger for information theory stuff. I really don't deserve it: Jeff Shallit at Recursivity knows a whole lot more than I do. But I do my best. Anyway, several people pointed out that over at the Disco Institute, resident Legal Eagle Casey…

I suspect McLeroy won because he was in the position to do the most damage.

How very disappointing.

I suspect with all that concentrated stupidity, the judges would go comatose at some point. Whose CV they were reading was the selection.

Nerd@3
Exactly. The CV that makes your eyes cross and things begin to go black is the winner.

I bet that depends on which order you read them.

I had no idea that seven-time Grammy winner Al Jazeera was a creationist. He sang the "Moonlighting" theme, right?

I find that award incredibly offensive to anyone who has ever had a stomach virus. Obviously the NCSE is taking on the New Atheist tactic of trying to alienate everyone who may possibly be an ally in favor of Friday morning shock radio style shenanigans, and I for one will have nothing to do with it. Nothing, I say! [/intersectioncommenter]

So, will heddle now to refer to the NCSE as a fundamentalist organization?

McLeroy beat out Casey Luskin AND Ray Comfort!

That makes McLeroy quite a cdesignipecactist!

Ken Ham didn't make the list? How disappointing.

How the hell did Comfort lose? He published a rewritten Origin of the Species that godwined itself. You can't beat that for pure scumbagginess.

Stupid creationists I can just about tolerate as it's not their fault but it's the intelligent educated ones that are really annoying.

I'm sure it was just an honor to be nominated but they are all winners in my book.

Wait a minute. You don't suppose they're going to spend the next year being even more nauseating? This isn't the sort of competition we should encourage. They do enough damage on their own, can you imagine what it'll be like once they start actively training for the event?

It you take a flock of spewing cretinists, strap them upside done to a space capsule, and “ignite” them (show them a picture of Darwin or something), will the combined emissions be sufficient to achieve orbit?

Al Jazeera? now I'm gonna have to go and see why they nominated them...

will the combined emissions be sufficient to achieve orbit?

Considering the vacuousness of their thoughts and statements, I doubt it. Maybe enough to light a charcoal grill if well aimed...

aah, now it makes sense:

Al Jazeera isn't a source of quality science journalism on its best day, but its coverage of the scientific papers about "Ardi" (Ardipithecus ramidusI) really cranked up the reality distortion field. The headline: "Ardi Refutes Darwin's Theory".
Notable quote: "[American scientists]...announced yesterday that Ardi’s discovery proves that humans did not evolve from ancestors that resemble chimpanzees, which refutes the longstanding assumption that humans evolved from monkeys.”

I'm going to guess this is from Al Jazeera English, and that's very disappointing.

No, from an article that wasn't available on the English website, according to blog posts from October.

Godwin help us.

If you look at the big picture though, the culprit that likely does the most damage is al-jazeera.

"What are you laughing at?" my 11-year-old son asks.

I tell him, "This contest: Who's the most disgusting creationist?"

He thinks. "Umm... god?"

He always comes up with the right answers.

McLeroy winning is easy. All the other folks just wrote books and gave speeches and such. McLeroy could force his veiws on most of the US. He was in charge of the textbooks in texas, and most publishers just make a texas version and sell it to everyone else since texas buys so many textbooks.

How very cosmopolitan of them to include Al Jazeera in the list of nominees.

oh, i see.

Al Jazeera may just be following the hallowed journalistic tradition that science stories should be written by those completely ignorant of science.

McLeroy beat out Ray of the Master Comfort.
Well, the good news is, it may just be a Lovely Parting Gift, as he seems to have been un-elected.
So, goodbye Don, don't let the door hit you on the way out.
