Kate's come up with a semi-ambitious plan for the summer: She's going to re-read The Lord of the Rings (for the first time since the movies came out), and post chapter-by-chapter thoughts on her LiveJournal. At the moment, she's only gotten through the introductory material and one critical essay, but there's already some interesting discussion in comments.

I've got a little too much on my plate to read along with her (also, she reads a whole lot faster than I do), but if you think this might be interesting, there's a handy index page where updates will be posted as they appear.

On Tor.com over the last couple of years, Kate Nepveu has been taking us through a chapter-by-chapter re-read of The Lord of the Rings. In each post she would give a brief summary of the action as well as some commentary. It's been a great project and it's just come to an end in the last week or…
The "Philosophy of Science" panel I moderated was surprisingly well-attended, and got some decent discussion going. Kate took notes, at least for a while, and I'll post a link if she writes it up on LiveJournal. The "Knights who Say Fuck" panel was in a very remote room that was much too small to…
"Do you ever miss the days when you used to be nostalgic?" -- Steven Brust, Dzur Way, way back in October, when I was annoying you all with DonorsChoose fundraining posts, I offered to sell post topics for $30. I've paid off most of these, but I have three left, one of which was for something more…
