There's been much less hoops-blogging than usual around here this year for a couple of reasons. For one thing, I'm busy with work, and more substantive blogging, so I don't have time to watch a lot of games. I'm also playing a fair amount of basketball these days, both pick-up games at lunch, and IM games Sunday evenings, and a lot of my hoop-related energies are going into that.
Really, though, the main reason for the scanty hoops-blogging is that my favorite teams both stink. Syracuse got bombed by Notre Dame last night, and Maryland rolled over after the half against Florida State. And, of course, because neither team is any good right now, they're not on tv, so I can't even watch the games and comment afterwards (I did listen to a bunch of the Maryland game on Internet radio, but I won't write detailed comments based on audio only). The only fun either team offers at the moment is the prospect of watching Jeremy Gold's head explode on the web.
So, here's a place-holder basketball post. If you've been missing the hoops blogging, consider this a basketball Open Thread. Here, I'll give you a topic: The Final Four teams will be Florida, Ohio State, North Carolina, and ______?

Being from Wisconsin, we have been living in dreamland (at least for non Carolina) for the last few years for college basketball. Wisconsin has a shot, they have a lot of leadership. What is scary though is that they don't have the deadeye shooters that seem to help win NCAA tournaments. But your teams! What happened to Syracuse? They beat Marquette, and it is like the best thing to happen to MU as they go on a tear, finally their guards wake up to learn to play against a zone, but Syracuse just kind of folds up.
I'll balance things out geographically for the final member of the Final Four, but pick Oregon over UCLA, Wazzu, and Arizona from out west. Just a hunch.
All the games that I can watch of my team (Michigan State), they seem to end up losing. They might be the softest 17-5 Big Ten team ever. They were completely exposed as counterfeit in the first half vs. the Buckeyes, but managed to re-authenticate themselves somewhat in the second half. I can see them winning 21 games and still missing the big dance this season.
17-6 for the Spartans record after soaking up another L last night in a game that would look good on an NCAA aspirant's resume.
My dark horse fourth team is Virginia Tech. No real reason why, except to spite the Pac-10 after UNC routed Arizona.
