Speech

I departed from my policy of getting convention news only via Daily Show reruns last night, and watched Obama's big acceptance speech. You can find substantive commentary elsewhere, and endless reams of wankery about whether he did what he "needed" to do, blah, blah, blah.

My main thought watching it was "Boy, it would sure be nice to have a President whose speeches aren't physically painful to listen to." The man sure can deliver a speech.

Some commentary on the night just past. This will be somewhat scattered, as I stayed up until 1 to hear Obama and read the celebratory postings at my favorite left-leaning blogs: -- As much as I believed what folks like Nate Silver were saying, I was still afraid that it would somehow all go wrong…
While I was editing and posting the pictures for last night's family blogging, SteelyKid came in and said "Daddy, we watched [indistinct name] today, and they created their own story on the show. But I don't know how to do that." "Sure you do, honey," I said. "You create stories all the time. You…
I know, I know, I don't usually do politics, but Rush is really chapping my ass right about now. His comments are always outrageously hate-filled diatribes, and he's getting harder to ignore every day. What's worse, his followers eagerly suckle at the teat intolerance, finding solace in his…
I never thought I'd finally see the day, but George W. Bush is no longer President of the United States, and Barack Obama is. I have to say, I've paid attention to Presidential Inaugurations since 1981, and I can't recall one greeted with as much excitement, hope, and expectation. All around my…

It was a good speech, and isn't the contrast amazing? While I watched I was wondering if Bush will give a speech at the republican convention.

By my count, he made 26 promises. I wonder how many he'd be able to live up to, if elected.

Harvard Law School is the Boalt Hall of the East. Are we playing toward Jeffersonian expectations for Obama? Anybody with kids knows the limits of command - and, on a good day, threadable loopholes.

It is incompetent fascists, corporatists, and double-digit IQ christ-besotted jackasses (Manchurian candidate McCain) against bleeding heart Liberals, welfare pimps, Enviro-whiners, feminazis, and Queer Nation (Dark Lord of the Senate). Anything not dripping God and entrenched stupidity can be made to work.

That last sentence excludes McCain's platform.
