Why Do Sports Media Hate Me?

I watched (bits of) a couple of basketball games last night for the first time in ages: Syracuse put up a good fight for a bit more than a half before being put away by a really good Connecticut team, and North Carolina blew Duke away late to win their fourth straight in Durham. These were two impressive performances by two terrific teams.

So I flip on Mike&Mike this morning, and they have Jay Bilas on. Who talks for two minutes about UConn and UNC, then Greenberg asks him, essentially, "You have a law degree, so would you care to pontificate about Alex Rodriguez?" And they spend the rest of the segment talking about steroids in baseball.

I put my breakfast together during the commercial break, and come back to find that they've changed the topic. Now they're talking about Michael Phelps smoking dope, and the ludicrous efforts of South Carolina prosecutors to make some sort of case to arrest him.

It's going to be one of those days, isn't it?

I haven't written much about basketball this year, for the simple reason that I haven't watched much basketball this year-- between SteelyKid, the book, and my day job, I just haven't had time. This weekend, though, I watched a whole bunch of hoops, mostly involving my two teams, Syracuse and…
Kate and I went to the two games of the "semifinals" of the 2K Sports Classic Supporting Coaches vs. Cancer, Your Name Here for a Prince pre-season "tournament" last night (the scare quotes are because the four teams playing last night were guaranteed to be playing last night, regardless of what…
It's been an absurdly good hoops week at Chateau Steelypips-- Syracuse won a big one to take over the (admittedly meaningless) #1 spot in the polls, and now Maryland beat Duke in a tough game to move into a tie for the top spot in the (admittedly down) ACC. If both Duke (home to UNC) and Maryland (…
Light blogging today, because yesterday was a Hoops Day here in Chateau Steelypips. A goog hoops day, too, with victories in all three games that mattered: Syracuse edged St. John's, Maryland beat the hated Dukies, and the intramural team I'm playing on won a tough game last night to more or less…

Wash all the bad out with a good dose of Northwestern v IL tonight at 8:00 CST. NU has one of its best chances EVER to get to the NCAA this year, and beating IL at home tonight would help that out. Personally, I think NU beating Mich State in Lansing should be all NU needs to do, but the damn committee voters might feel differently.

Intersting about your M & M comments - I was listening to the same crap from old Jay...I punched the radio button, and got a Darwin Day reminisce on PBS - and it was only biased a little. It would be nice to get PBS away from the darkside where they have been the past 8 years.

When I went back to M & M, they could have started a dialogue about abuse of police power - and it might have been more productive, although Golik did hint that he didn't think the witch hunt was right.
