ScienceBlogs had some back-end Issues for a few days, which delayed the photo-a-day project. This one's from two days ago, when I was taking a picture of the bare branches of a tree next door because I liked the way they looked against the sky. I ended up with a high-altitude photobomb, though:
I ended up liking the contrast of the tiny lit plane and the great big black branches, so this was the photo of the day. Not much else to say about that.

I am recovering -- too slowly -- from what appears to be a pinched nerve in my neck.
Stories like this really interest me, so a special thanks to Jody Lanard who sent it along. It's about those gloves they wear while making you a sandwich at the deli or a fast food joint. You know the ones. The disposable plastic kind. Disposable so you can change them often and throw them away.
It was already stifling at 9 o'clock in the morning as I frantically took notes on what I was witnessing through my field glasses. Without warning a black, hairy arm reached out to smack an unsuspecting victim, immediately giving way to a frantic chase that roused the entire troop.
Another day when I only took a couple of pictures, on the morning dog walk. I noticed that one of the now leafless trees on the route looked interestingly creepy, so I took a couple shots of that.
There are still some back-end issues, it seems: the RSS hasn't updated since the first of November; my feed reader reports:
