The Very Hungry Caterpillar Blankie

i-9dc84d4d9156dccb30d5f62466b4219a-swblocks.jpgOne of our favorite books in the Science household is Eric Carle's The Very Hungry Caterpillar. This book teaches science, counting, fruits, and nutrition (when the caterpillar gorges on junk food he gets a tummy-ache) and it is beautifully illustrated. So when I found this wonderful fabric, and neither Minnow nor I could resist it.

Minnow and her latest blankie

With a coordinating dot print on the reverse, a layer of flannel in the middle, and a baby blanket binding on the outside (Minnow picked the color), ta-da we had a new blankie. I put the whole thing together in just a few hours, and it's the only sewing I've had time to do in months. I've got the fabric for my next project, but it's quite a bit more ambitious, so it may be years before completion. In the meantime, we'll delight in the colors of this blankie.

More like this

The paternal view of childbirth is that you watch the mother struggle for hours, the child finally emerges, the midwife cleans him* up, hands him to you, and that's when he unloads a bladder full of pee on you.
David Penberthy is, presumably, an atheist…but a terribly angry, ranty, sanctimonious one. He has written an amazing article damning his nemeses—other atheists.
Elizabeth and the Catapult, "Golden Ink": a mellow track from a very good NY area band. This really isn't one of my favorites of their songs. It's rather on the dull side.
Two words sum up last night's poker: high variance. It was truly feast or famine night. I think there were more showdowns that ended with "Holy shit!" than ever before, as good hands got beat by great hands that were slow played time and time again.

Very nice! I love the Very Hungry Caterpillar and other illustrations done by the same illustrator. Naturally, I forget the name of the illustrator, but I did go to his museum several years ago.

Yay, I love it! And I agree, The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a really gorgeous, well-told story. Academic: the author is Eric Carle, and I think he did the illustrations, didn't he?

AWwwwww!
I have such fond moemories of that book. And it is a very pretty blankie!

I love it! Definitely read that story to the tots a lot, and remember Eric Carle books from my own childhood. That fabric is great!
