ASU Football

Last night, ASU (ranked 25th) beat Nevada 52-21 with Rudy Carpenter throwing a career-high five touchdowns. Much to be happy about after an unimpressive win the previous week against the NAU Lumberjacks. While the defense was solid and WRs Nate Kimbrough and Chris McGaha totalled 123 yards, the running game was sporadic and offensive errors led to 14 of Nevada's 21 points. There's still plenty of room for improvement and Saturday's game in Colorado should let us know if ASU can have a good season.

I'm going to be in the Boston area this weekend, visiting Kate's family, so I will end up watching Saturday night's Giants-Patriots game with my Patriot-fan in-laws. In case you didn't know, New England is currently 15-0, and if they win this game they have the chance to be the first team to ever…
Got to watch the MSU-Illinois game on TV and I think it's time to start talking about MSU QB Drew Stanton as a serious candidate for the Heisman Trophy. His numbers this year have been phenomenal as he's led the Spartans to a 4-0 start. In those 4 games, here are his numbers: Kent State: 22 for 29…
Syracuse beat Providence yesterday, in a good old-fashioned Big East game-- on a critical late-game play, a Providence player got smacked across the face hard enough to turn his head, and no foul was called. He missed the shot, Syracuse got the rebound, and it was all over but the free-throw…
Maryland beat Florida State last night, and moved over 0.500 in the ACC for the first time. This is also their 21st win on the season, and Jeremy Gold has gone round the bend: MD could rise as high as #2 seen in the NCAAs should they finish 10-6 in the ACC and win the ACC Tournament. Granted that…

Good luck with that...

My team (Olemiss) got walloped 37-7 by Mizzou, after having a very good opener against Memphis St.

Did you see our ex-quarterbacks on TV Sunday night? Eli looked pretty good... wish they didn't have to graduate sometimes :)

Enjoy it while you can, because your winning streak will surely come to an end (if it hasn't already) when the Fighting Green and Yellow invades your town on Sep 30th.

I'm on staff at ASU and when someone writes in to the office I work for with a question or an issue, I'm the guy charged with the task of either getting the question answered or the issue solved. From time to time, there's some really odd stuff that crosses my desk. Yesterday, I fielded an e-mail from someone who was convinced that ASU's mascot Sparky is not just a devil, but The Devil. Sparky has been a part of ASU since 1956,*** but never mind that. We're on the road to ruin. In fact, there's only one explanation for the Sun Devils' 2-0 football record so far this season, the whole football team must be possessed. Where's Fr. Gabriele Amorth when you need him?

*** Sparky had a brief hiatus on 9/14/87 when Pope John Paul II celebrated mass in ASU's stadium.
