Who is on first?

Regular readers will know that ASU are looking for a new football coach after the firing of Dirk Koetter. Thursday morning the word was that there were six possible candidates: Norm Chow, Dennis Erickson, Steve Mariucci, Mike Martz, Mike Price and Mike Riley, with Chow being a "very strong candidate". By midnight, the Arizona Republic was reporting that a decision was on the verge of being made and that Price, Erickson and Riley were the top candidates, with Price being the front runner - this despite the fact that neither Idaho (Erickson) nor UTEP (Price) have been contacted by ASU to begin talks. Journalism at its best, I suppose.

Let's face it ... none of these three are particularly impressive and are unlikely to lead ASU in a turnaround of fortune.

It's the last regular season game for ASU - the Territorial Cup game against the University of Arizona Wildcats. At the beginning of the season, I don't think anyone would have predicted that ASU would have a 3-5 PAC-10 record and U of A (4-4) would have beaten three ranked opponents in a row…
ASU got beaten by Hawai'i 41-24 in the Hawai'i Bowl, Leading 10-3 at the half, but down 24-10 late in the third, ASU rallied for two touchdowns and had a third negated by penalty to nearly pull out a final win for Koetter. But no joy. You can't win a game if you allow the opposing QB throw for 559…
The silence must have been deafening. As - hopefully - everybody knows, during 2007 Spencer Lucas and colleagues at the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science (NMMNHS) were charged with intellectual theft, of pre-empting the writings of colleagues, and of publishing on material without…
On a Saturday in which #1 LSU lost, #2 Cal lost to Oregon State, and USC barely squeezed past Arizona, ASU beat Washington 44-20 after trailing 17-13 at the half- a dominant performance in the second half that nicely illustrated Dennis Erickson’s ability as a coach, particularly considering our top…

I suspect Denny Green will be available shortly...

Just went through the same thing with my alma mater N.C. State. After the disappointing and arrogant run that Amato had I was hoping they'd try hard to grab Norm Chow. We need offense and a coach that can hold a team (players and coaches) together. He did coach at NCSU back in 2000 so I thought that might make it an easier transition. So of course out of the blue they grabbed O'Brien from BC.

He was a good coach there and I'm not really overly happy or overly upset about the choice. It's not really a "get your fan base excited" kind of pick....but that is what Big Chest Chuck Amato was and look where that got NCSU. No where once Phillip Rivers left.

Good luck on the choice.

I'm actually wondering if Chow is one of those coaches that may not want the hassle of a head coaching job. I mean how could anyone turn down ASU and NCSU...........

Excuse me??
