Bush’s approval rating is now down to 28%, the lowest of his tenure as POTUS, and a drop of 62% from his high in September 2001. As Gallup notes, both Bush Sr and Jr went through 60% drops in their approval during their tenure. It must be genetic, I guess.
Strangely (or maybe not) approval among Republicans is at 66% (versus 24% for independents and 6% for Democrats). That’s some mighty strong Kool-Aid there.
The lowest ever for a President was 22% (for Truman in February 1952). If the economy continues to tank, I think we can expect that Bush will "reach" that mark.

Yes, it will continue to tank. The bad news is that it won't recover even if the dems are elected. A huge range of factors are working against us at once - oil, real estate, war, debt/dollar, climate change, and maybe the most significant - millions of retiring baby boomers with increased demands on social security and massive withdrawal of savings. A perfect storm. We need something like another internet, or maybe the world really will end in 2012.
"6% for Democrats" . . . how can these people call themselves democrats?
It would be interesting to see whether this is a general trend for out going Presidents or just those that are shown up for being the arses the rest of the world knows them to be!
Bush can retire and watch replays of the Expelled DVD again and again, basking in the glow of a job "well done".

No kidding... 6% for democrats. Should we be on the lookout for our version of Pancho Villa? :) Yes all the factors above are there to be dealt with. Not the least of which is we don't have any savings to speak of. The baby boomer generation seems to be the last of the generations that did better than their parents generation... Add to that, now they seem bent on leaving nothing in the way of assets at all to their progeny. I think what would help is for some credible figurehead to come forth and make a believable statement that current things will improve. We haven't tried that one yet.
