Al Franken

This is a recap of my earlier post of what to watch for in the US Senate Races. We are hoping for a 60 seat Democratic Party presence in the Senate in order to have a filibuster proof majority. Without this, any Republican with a grudge, a bad attitude, a hatred of liberal or progressive idea, or who feels that his/her own career is more important than his/her country (which pretty much describes 99 percent of all Republicans) can get up on the Senate Floor and read Mother Goose Tales forever in order to stop a bill being brought up for a vote. I'm not using an analogy or a metaphor here…
Why should you vote for Al Franken? Ask Mike: Why Did I Vote for Al Franken?. And see Almost Diamonds to find out why Stephanie is Voting for Al.

No, this is not about phenotypes and genotypes. It is about smarm. Norm Coleman, the Republican Senator from Minnesota currently fighting to hold his seat against a challenge by Al Franken, is a power hungry amoral selfish bastard who should not be allowed near a public office of any kind. But don't ask me about this guy. Ask Stephanie, who has written a killer post on the topic. I will be over there later to comment. You should go now and get things started.
In one week from tonight, we will be hearing the results of the elections in the US. There is a widespread feeling of unease among Obama supporters, but the numbers are looking good. The house is likely to remain Democratic. The big question right now, however, is the Senate. For real change to happen over the next few years, a vindictive, mean spirited Republican party simply can not have the power of filibusterer. If they have it, they will use it, and they will do everything they can to hobble a Democratic majority. You know this is true. So the Senate is the place to watch, as well…
It is time to be alarmed. An usual but possibly valid poll taken at Saint Cloud State indicates that Norm Coleman may be quite far ahead of Al Franken in the Senate race here in Minnesota. This is very disturbing for three reasons. 1) This is one of the only poll anywhere, and certainly THE only one for this race, in which a systematic effort was made to contact people who's primary telephone is a cell phone. The theory was that this cell-phone subset of people would be smarter, more liberal, less likely to support a lying treacherous dweeb like Norm Coleman. So, either that theory is…
("Fritz" is Walter Mondale.)
Norm Coleman has taken $2 million from Wall Street and financial interests -- more than any other Senate candidate in the country. He's not on our side.
After the Star Tribune and KSTP-TV blasted ads from the Coleman campaign and the National Republican Senatorial Committee as false and misleading, the Al Franken for Senate campaign today released a new television ad featuring Minnesota women expressing their disgust and outrage at the depths to which Norm Coleman has sunk.
Iraq War vet Sam Scott calls Norm Coleman's attacks "the same old shameful Washington politics" and tells Minnesotans why he's proud to stand with Al Franken.
In a powerful new television spot intended to help Minnesotans get to know the real Al Franken, his wife Franni reveals her struggle with alcohol dependency and talks about Al's work to support her and others in the same situation.
This is from Jeff Rosenberg: Norm Coleman has run a nasty campaign, full of personal attacks, half-truths, and ridiculous claims about Al Franken. Why would he do that? you may ask. The answer is simple: he knows that if this campaign comes down to issues, he'll lose. He was never elected for sharing Minnesotans' views on the issues, and his record in Congress has not been one most Minnesotans would approve of. Over the past few months, I've compiled Coleman's floor votes on a number of different subjects. Now I bring you a summary of his worst votes. He wants to run from his record, but…
Is it true that everyone in the US knows about this talking fish thing? Billy Bass, or maybe Wally the Walleye? Almost everyone in Minnesota no only knows about this, but owns or at one time owned a billy bass or a wally the Wally. Not me, but everyone else, almost. Anyway, here's the new ad:
Thank you, Ana, for sending this: It gets a bit old by the time it is over, but it is funny. At the event we went to, the bidding started at 50, got to 60 or something, and someone shouted out "500?!?!?" and that was the end.
All Franken chatting with supporters at a home in Coon Rapids. "Why?" you may ask, "Why would a guy running for the United States Senate ... in which you represent one state ... have a fifty state strategy?" Good question. Franken discussed his Fifty State Strategy with supporters at a recent fund raiser at a home in Coon Rapids. Amanda, Julia and I dropped in, and were able to hear Franken's current thinking on a number of issues. He discussed Norm Coleman, the economy, the war, America's place in the world, and cracked exactly one Saturday Night Live joke. And, we had an…
Hat Tip: TUIBG But wait, there's more:
According to the Star Tribune: But the Star Tribune is wrong, and they know they are wrong (according to sources close in). So, is their front page editor on crack or something? Let's test this hypothesis. (UPDATE: See: Senate race polling breakdown) Available recent polling data suggest that Barack Obama is leading John McCain in the Great State of Minnesota by double digits. Here is a picture of the data from Polster.com: The little dots are data points and the lines are regressed off of these points. The most recent Rasmussen poll shows Coleman and Franken in a dead heat at 44/43…
