We expect to have a new male baby on November 20th +/-. But we don't know what to name it. Do you have any suggestions? The person's last name will be "Laden." So you have to say any name suggestion you have out loud with "Laden." For example, if you are thinking "Aden" then say: "Aden Laden ... ooops, no it rhymes, forget that." or "Ben Laden .... ooops, news-splashed terrorist associations, forget that." and so on. So.... any suggestions?
Its a 1980s dating video montage. I think some of these guys were left over from the 70s. I guess I'd go with the Viking. Bonus video:

The detectives who waited on my doorstep the afternoon after Jake's murder asked lots of questions, even if they were about Carla, and they listened very well. I was nervous at first, but once I got over the shock of seeing them at my door, I was telling them everything. Enjoy a little free on line fiction at Quiche Moraine.

A few weeks ago the nightly hour-long documentary series on CBC Radio, "Ideas," allowed Canadian climate change pseudoskeptic Larry Solomon an entire hour to make his case against the science of anthropogenic global warming. The producers offered not a single challenge to any of Solomon's arguments, despite the fact that practically every point he made on the science of the subject was either false or grossly misrepresented the science. Solomon is a "respected" enviromentalist. But he has decided climate change isn't as big a threat as just about the entire climatology community fears it to…

This is the sixtieth anniversary of cryptography, according to one way of counting it that I'm sure lots of people don't agree with. (I mean, seriously, I've SEEN the Da Vinci code, man.) Anyway, here is a nice slide show, starting out with the Engigma, working its way through the movie "Sneaker" and eventually to "quantum cryptography" The slide show is here.

Nobody knows. But, someone does suspect this is the case. (If it is true, and we don't know, it pertains to LAST YEARs flu shot, and may or may not pertain to this year's flu shot.) However, it would seem that the proprietary publication process is keeping the information in private for now. David Dobbs has the story.
Yes, it is "National 'Punctuation'" Day ... in America! All day you should use "extra" [whenever possible] punctuation! It will help to #@%@^# swear now and then...!!! The national "Punctuation 'Day'" page is .... -> HERE!?!?
Astronomers and space exploration enthusiasts around the web are expressing lots of enthusiasm for the discovery of water on the moon by the Indian Chandrayaan-1 orbiter. Long story short (Ethan has a good version of the long story), the probe discovered relatively large quantities of water frozen throughout the lunar soil just below the surface. It's not just at the bottom of craters in the polar regions, but instead seems to be quite widespread. It's a big deal for a lot of reasons. From a pure science perspective, it's exciting to learn such a major and mostly unexpected fact about or…
This post could be like the end of the movie Casa Blanca, with two versions, because I know two Stephanies with birthdays today. One is my oldest friend in Minnesota, long time partner in various adventures in life, best 'man' at my wedding, and is seen here sending laser beams out into space: Happy birthday Stephanie, and please check your email for a much fuller comment on circumcision! The other is my partner in crime, I mean blogging (and a couple of other things), and much more recent BFF, Stephanie Zvan of Quiche Moraine and Almost Diamonds: Happy Birthday Stephanie Zvan! Go…

While I was living in an Armenian enclave near Boston, this happened: A Turkish-American jeweler with a shop in Somerville was driving his car somewhere around Medford, and was ambushed. Several bullets were fired into his car, killing him and totally ruining the Cadillac. The Armenians partied, and the secret organization of assassins took credit. Please check out my latest post at Quiche Moraine. Thank you very much.
