Notes from Washington Days

Bill Clinton is a great orator, and unquestionably one of the great minds of our age. A full report will be up tomorrow.

Well-placed sources had not even heard the rumors about Steve Boyda running for Senate, and sources that had heard the rumors were generally dismissive of them. People are either keeping their cards close to their chest, or Steve Kraske got burned. For what it's worth, I think there are a number of people who would be great competition for Pat Roberts, and it's nice to see the threat of a challenge reminding Pat Roberts to come back to Kansas now and then.

I interviewed Congressman Moore. I would have tried to sit down with Congresswoman Boyda, but she is with a Congressional delegation to Iraq. She arrived Friday morning, and will undoubtedly have some interesting stories to tell upon her return.

Congressman Moore seems to be enjoying himself in the new Congress. There was a spring in his step as we talked, and he seemed especially excited about being in the leadership of the Blue Dogs. On Iraq, he argued that the military mission has been accomplished for some time, and it's time for a political solution. He seems pretty confident in General Petraeus, while expressing hope that the General will push the President for a shift from the military effort to a political one.

TfK friend Don Weiss was having a great time, and looks forward to the April 3 JCCC elections. Alas, it sounds like John Doll, who ran against Jerry Moran last time, will probably not run again.
