Random Ten

Randomly selected from my "driving" playlist in iTunes. It's like you're in the car with me right now, as I drive across the western US.

"How to Fight Loneliness" by Wilco from the album Summerteeth (1999, 3:52).

"Fingertips 18 - The Day That Love Came to Play" by They Might Be Giants from the album Apollo 18(1990, 0:08).

"Gotta Serve Somebody" by Bob Dylan from the album Slow Train Coming (1979, 5:21).

"State Trooper" by Bruce Springsteen from the album Nebraska (1982, 3:17).

"Help!" by The Beatles from the
Ed Sullivan Show (1965, 3:01).

"Julia" by The Beatles from the album The White Album (1968, 2:53).

"The Promised Land" by Bruce Springsteen from the album The Essential Bruce Springsteen (2003, 4:31).

"Take,Take,Take" by The White Stripes from the album Get Behind Me Satan (2005, 4:22).

"It's Just That Simple" by Wilco from the album A.M. (1995, 3:46).

"Girl" by The Beatles from the album Rubber Soul (1965, 2:33).

If you consult the Apollo 18 liner notes, you'll learn that it is supposed to be played on random shuffle, so that the "Fingertips" songs will be randomly interspersed between the other songs. I would not know that but for my college roommate, the excellent Ian Thompson.

And do not forget the truth: Wilco is good, sometimes exceptional, but often inconsequential. Alas.

From your map, you're missing out on some nice car tourism. Why just hop on interstates? If you have the time, do yourself a favor, and plot a bitchin' trip back. My suggestions (without looking at a map) for a great trip back? Pick a route that goes through : Frisco, Boulder, and Blanding Utah, a faster return to I70 thru Gateway, CO, or a longer way that shows you Ridgeway, Montrose, and Salida. These are all beautiful drives.
