Post Full of Semi-Random Links

Perusing Google Reader tonight, and here are some items of note:

Absinthe seems to be in a bad way, at least as regards blogging and the blogosphere. Doesn't seem to be much we can do to cheer her or change her mind, as she promises to delete all comments from her blog post. It's a shame to see her dismantling so much of her blog.

There's an interesting post at Fairer Science on Five Myths about Girls and Science, with a link to a story on the NSF website. Check it out.

Female Science Professor's life never ceases to amaze. Read the tale of her second encounter with the moron who couldn't believe a female was responsible for the research published under her name.

Joolya's miniprep song is just too wonderful!

And there's a new Postdoc Carnival up at Veo Claramente's place.

Karmen at Chaotic Utopia has honored/saddled me with the Thinking Blogger Award/meme. I rarely ever participate in memes. But since this one is disguised as a compliment I'll make an exception. Since this comes from Karmen, I do take it as a compliment - thank you, Karmen! It was nice to…
UPDATE: I have appended some text to this post at the end. I have closed the comments on this post because they have become so unpleasant all around and I don't think further dialogue here is serving any positive purpose. If you disagree with me, I'm sorry. I'm also sorry I didn't do this a lot…
It looks like someone over at BlogCritics is undertaking the task of reviewing each of the component blogs of ScienceBlogs. So far, he's not particularly impressed with anyone except Martin and, to a lesser extent, Afarensis. Although he makes a few good points in checking out the first five blogs…
The latest Cites & Insights (v10i11) is out and in it Walt Crawford explores some of the recent developments in the blogging landscape in a section called The Zeitgeist: Blogging Groups and Ethics. It's a very good overview and analysis of what's going on both in the science and librarian…

"It's a shame to see her dismantling so much of her blog."

It is indeed.

I also consider it a slap in the face of her readers. Readers invest time and effort in a blog, reading and/or commenting, and a blog thus becomes a collaborative effort between a blogger and her readers. Absinthe's decision has the effect of telling her collaborators to fuck off.

This is certainly her right, and I don't begrudge her exercise of it. But when someone tells me to fuck off, I fuck off. I won't be returning to her blog.
