can't be anywhere on the interior, since Springfield has a sea port - which, along with the ocean, is usually invisible in aerial shots. it also has a volcano and a canyon/gorge that come and go as needed.
no, Springfield is a magical place where geography depends entirely on the needs of the main characters.
Springfield also has a nearby desert with a grandiose canyon. And nearby mountains just outside of town.
I think it's clear that Springfield is all in Homer's mind
