World's Fair Sponsored by Hungarian Cookery -- Yum!!

This week's sponsor is none other than the Hungarian Cookery, whose world famous motto is a one word "Yum!!" Cuz let me ask you readers something: are you Hungarian? Know what? Doesn't matter. Know why? Cuz you don't have to be Hungarian to love homemade goulash and dumplings and whatnot.

One of the reasons we took on the Hungarian Cookbook as a sponsor this week (and late at that, eep!) was that they accept *both* Mastercard and Visa. A class act, all the way. Here's the kicker too: you're not sure what you want to eat or if you want to plunk down the just-shy-o'-ten bucks? Well go ahead anyway, and know that you get a catalog too. It's free!! With a thousand recipes, you're sure to find good eats.

All we know is that their grub is a lot better than what you'll get from GE and their sponsorship. Although we're glad to see Verizon on the sidebar instead of napalm Dow, at this moment, the whole GE thing with their, wait, what was that? "Clean" coal? just rubs us the wrong way. Not just as moral posturing (how dare we, unprecedented!), but as a note on scientific integrity. Especially at a blog collective about science it would seem inappropraite to talk about "clean" coal, said term and approach presenting ethical problems. Would we want "Intelligent" design to sponsor us? Guessing not. Because it doesn't make any sense as a scientific enterprise. "Clean" coal? Makes as much sense, intellectually, as Intelligent Design. There is no such thing as Clean Coal.

Again, why did we accept Weiss Importer's offer to sponsor the site? Because.

More like this

On my first visit to Hungary, many years ago, our first meal out was to a medium-sized restaurant in Debrecen. I did not understand anything on the menu but I did recognise one word. Pointed. "Ah, goulash", said the waiter, with a happy smile, "no you do not want that". "Goulash, yes I want goulash please." "No you do not want it." "I want goulash. Why do you say I do not want goulash." "You want goulash. That is not goulash."

But I had some anyway, and it was good, even if it wasn't goulash.

First, as someone whose muddied lineage has some potential to be Hungarian, and whose last name translates roughly into english as "noodle", let me just say that this sponsor is top shelf. Like ramen noodles. And, for those unwilling to fork over the 10 clams, as one quasi-hungarian to someone else, I can attest that goulash noodles should be baked into the sauce - the sauce should not be ladled atop spaghetti style. Italy's like this whole other country. And, yes, I savor food puns.

Oh, and clean coal is healthy - likes jogging. Want clean coal? Ask this guy.

Man is that stuff good-I think if I brought home a Hungarian cookbook, my mother and grandmother would throw me out on the street without any nokedli. But hey, I don't know how to cook porkolt myself, maybe I'll get a copy of Paprika's when I move back into my dorm...
