Any artists out there? This blog needs a nice masthead banner at the top. I'd like it to feature the following:
- The word Aardvarchaeology
- At least one recognisable aardvark
- Recognisable archaeology stuff, e.g. a square pit, a spoil dump, a sieve, a trowel, a bucket, a folding rule, a metal detector, a surveying instrument on a tripod...
All submissions will be showcased here, and if I get one I decide to use, then its creator will receive a $20 book token and +3 charisma.
Now go play with yer crayons!
5 January. Here's a good one from Rhampton:

As my Photoshop skills leave something to be desired, I am opening up a contest for any reader who would like to send me ideas for banners, as well as a square logo, for the Thoughtful Animal.
Details:
The banner image must be 756 pixels wide by 93 pixels high.
The logo…
Spent some time today remodeling the website. The biggest difference you will notice is a rotating masthead. Currently there are three in random rotation. The first one is the one you are familiar with. Those of you with us since the old days will recognize the second masthead, our very fist for…
We have now gotten some good entries, but we still need more to make a completely, er, informed decision...and we're afraid some real Picassos out there are still holding back. So with just days left, Sheril and I want to remind everyone one last time about the The 1st Annual CRASH THE INTERSECTION…
Recently I organised a few days' excavation that didn't turn up the kind of stuff I was hoping for. Still, I brought some materials home that may serve to shed some light on what exactly it was we dug into. All those nondescript little pits, all those sooty hearths full of cracked stone -- when…
I'm rating posts for Coturnix's anthology for the next three days, but, if no one does any thing before the weekend, I'll send a cartoon your direction.
My cartoons look like this:

You want us to combine this
With this
and the word 'aardvark' in letters?
...anf fit it in 756px by 93px ?
Have I mentioned lately that you are out of your mind?
You should work on getting Aardvarchaeology listed in the Blog index at the scienceblogs.com top page as well.
Yeah, I know. Sb's web designer is away on holiday. I hope he'll fix it on Monday. Meanwhile, the hit counter for Aardvarchaeology is nevertheless beating more than half of the other Sb blogs. Mwahaha!
Feel free to use this image aardvarchaeology.jpg
Hey, man/lady/talented person, that's really cool! A strong contender. Looking at the bitmap, I realise that I may have been overly enthusiastic about the banner's width. Would you like to make a 756 x 50 pixel version as well?
Oh boy, did I screw-up -- I purposely built a bleed margin into my Photoshop file and then forgot about it. That's why the first image was over-sized. Well, I corrected the error and remade the image to fit the dimensions you initially provided (aardvarchaeology_756x93.jpg). If you still think you need a 756x50 banner, let me know and I'll get to it.
As for my gender, I'll let Brock Sampson of the hilarious Venture Brothers answer that one;
Wow, thanks! Silly me, I just assumed the first version was 93 pixels. The new one is exactly the right width. Also improved by the removal of the spotlight on the 'vark's head! Now you can see the ears.
John and Henrik, sorry for my late reply! I just learned that comments with links stick in the junk filter.
John, your stuff is great, I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with!
Henrik, as for insanity, you're on my wavelength. I'm sure you can transcend space and time and 756 by 93 pix.
Wow! That one from Rhampton is really great! Tough one.
