Death of an Imaginary Friend

I am in mourning for a character in Six Feet Under who died on us last night. The fifth season is airing in Sweden. And I mull over the final scene. Did another character turn into Shaggy from Scooby Doo and act as the dead person's psychopomp on the way to the hereafter? Bizarre, typically bizarre. And very moving to me. It's been a great, great series.

As many of you know, I'm a big Doctor Who fan. Big enough that I've grabbed all of the episodes of the new series, and its spinoffs, via BitTorrent. (I also buy them on DVD as soon as they become available.) A few folks have asked me what I think of the spinoffs. And I'm sick at home, feeling like…
Well here's an interesting tidbit of news: Former Doctor Who star Christopher Eccleston will star as Number Six in a television remake of the cult favorite series, "The Prisoner". "The 1967 series, starring Patrick McGoohan as a former secret agent who was kidnapped and imprisoned in a mystery…
The big Monty Hall book has finally been sent off to OUP, so it's time to get back to blogging. We begin with lighter fare. I caught the midnight screening of the new Indiana Jones movie last night. Did it live up to its billing? No. It was terrible. A true disaster. Cringe-worthy. Hard…
In Peter Jackson's Return of the King, there was a spectacular scene in which the elf Legolas single-handedly takes out a giant war elephant, first dispatching the entire crew riding its back, then firing a couple of arrows into its skull. Finally, with cool aplomb, he slides down the dying beast's…

I watched the first season and the beginning of the second. One of the rare TV oferings I liked and appreciated. Is it still as good now?

All five seasons are very good. However, only the first has a strong magical-realism or dreamy component. Many viewers (including myself) feel that this element makes the first season the best av them all.

Well, Martin, now you have to stick to about one foot under. That is about as far as a metal detector goes? And, then there is a new season of Extras.

I haven't really been following the show, even though I like it. And then I watch it for the first time in like a year, and ********* dies. Just like that. Typical!

But I love the old episode where the mother goes camping and accidentally takes her son's ecstasy pills...classic!

Well, Martin, now you have to stick to about one foot under.

Not yet, three more episodes to go!

Is it still as good now?

IMO the fifth season was a bit exasperating at first, but it has picked up speed appreciably.
