Master of the Chair dies

Sir Magnús Magnússon the long time presenter of the legendary BBC programme Mastermind, author, historian and journalist, has died.

One british quiz programme I would not have minded seeing in the US.
The creator apparently based the format on his experiences being interrogated by the Gestapo.

A great loss, and by all accounts a very nice chap. Despite being a British institution, he kept his name in the telephone directory, even at the cost of being called up at all hours by (usually pissed) people wanting him to referee a debate over a pub quiz question.
