Do not invite me to observatories - I have the Pauli effect
The Green Bank Telescope is very pretty.
But I'm not going to get to see it move...
seems it just broke.
Just a little bit. I'm sure they can fix it soon...
Could be worse, at least the mountain is not on fire.

#10: Wolfgang Pauli
I've got a ton of stuff that needs to get done this week, but I don't want the blog to be completely devoid of new content, so here's a quasi-poll question for my wise and worldly readers:
What scientist is most in need of a good popular biography?
It seems like most of us agree: Wikipedia is blessed though, like pop music (or an ugly partner), it is easy to love it and then deny one's affection for it publicly, especially in the science world.
Speaking of awards...Though Daniel Pauly has recently won so many awards I had to recommend to him The Econo
Well, at least they were wise enough to schedule the shutdown for construction while you were around the telescope. Hopefully you're not hexing the pulsar people that are squeezing every last drop of science time out of this. I thought they had a pretty nifty idea to distribute the data to high schools around West Virginia.
A (perhaps apocryphal) anecdote: When a scale model of the GBT was being built for the Science Center the model builder found the base was too small to support the weight of the telescope (mirroring current problems). Take a look at the revised model on display and you'll see the base is noticeably larger in proportion to the dish than the actual telescope off in the distance.
I'm here for the pulsars, theoretically

I think what you call "shut down for construction" I call "broke"
pulsars@home is cool
