Obama at PSU

Obama giving a stump speech on the lawn just down from my office.
Good turnout, good weather, good speech.

Had to bail before the end, very intense crowd - Sen Casey, the PSU quarterback and Jay and Sue Paterno in attendance.

Standard speech, but he really does give amazingly good speeches, easily best I have heard, including some very good Euro pols.

Saturdays I tend to use for soapboxing on things which may or may not be related to physics. Today I think it will be free speech. There's a Supreme Court case involving Hillary: The Movie in the context of McCain-Fiengold campaign finance law.

It's very nice of Obama to have occasionally acknowledged the existence of freethinkers in his speeches, but it doesn't mean much when his administration endorses blasphemy laws.

Any indication if he'd be positive/neutral/negative for science funding?

Positive overall, but some areas of science would be cut, as I understand it.
His campaign web site has a lot of detailed policy proposals, not quite Hillary level detail, but close.
Speech was standard stump speech with updates and local colour. Missed the last 15 mins or so.
Astonishing crowd, estimated at ~ 20,000 - lines for 3+ hours to get into screened inner area.

Very, very good speaker; good on content to.
