From which this wonderful quote: There may be rhetoric about the socially constructed nature of Western science, but whenever it matters, there is no alternative. There are no specifically Hindu or Taoist designs for mobile phones, faxes or television. There are no satellites based on feminist…
The flip side of the pretty colors I posted about yesterday is that all those nicely colored leaves fall down. Which isn't a big deal with the little ornamental maple in the front yard, but when the fifty-foot oak tree in the back drops its leaves, it kind of makes a mess. We deal with this in the…
I always get plenty of books for Christmas--more than I’ll ever have time to read, certainly. So, this year, when I started to tear the paper from the corner of another heavy and flat rectangle, it was hard to get excited. But underneath the paper, I caught a glimpse of a cracked cobblestone. The…

I think one could quite easily put together a critical mass of astro blogs. Not necessarily with the dough, though.

Yes, I think there is a critical mass of astro blogs, though a few of the bigger ones would not join any sort of co-op.
An astro/physics/geo blog collective would also be interesting.

But, I think the structure of scienceblogs is better still, they got that right - a mix of all the sciences, with a range of blog styles and types - I know I like to get a glance at the bio and geo blogs, and sometimes dig into topics there, and I get the impression they like to see the astro/physics stuff pass by also.

The money is not critical for me, I am not trying to make a living off blogging, but with any modicum of traffic it is useful to have tech support and some management.

I don't know in the current economy if anyone would want to try this, or if a new co-op can grow to the sort of gross net.audience that Sb has.
Size has a quality all its own sometimes.

Anyway, End of The Net: Film at Noon
or so I hear.
