Cooking on Thanksgiving?

Our household is very excited about Thanksgiving.

That's because this Thanksgiving, my husband is cooking a turkey in an egg. A big green egg. i-81f269618afe8a11c7c0f54bb3d900a1-green_egg.gif

Check back later today, about 5:30 pm, Pacific Standard Time, to see a picture of the turkey. In the meantime, here are some other items that were cooked in the egg.

If you can cook it in an egg, he will try it.

I used to be the primary cook in our house, but that's all changed since we got the egg. Now, my husband cooks everything, just to see how it will work.

But, now I've learned from Make magazine that you can cook a turkey, in a green egg, by remote control from an iPhone.

Maybe next Thanksgiving, I'll cook the turkey!

First, consider cooking something other than a turkey Cooking turkey is actually kind of a dumb idea. Most people don't ever cook turkey. Turkey is like chicken ... it's a domestic bird that is familiar to all Americans ... but it is very difficult to cook in a way that does not ruin it. So once…
You have time but time can go by very quickly and suddenly Thanksgiving is upon you. This repost from one year ago may help you plan your turkey-day meal. My daughter, Julia, is named after two people. One of them is Julia Child. I happen to think Julia Child has had more influence on American…
Thanksgiving is a holiday (in the U.S. at least) when we're all reminded about the things we're thankful for. At our house, we're thankful for the opportunity to cook all day and share a meal with friends and young adults. And, even though I haven't given my turkey an IP address, this is still a…
It is only on really stressful days when I refer to them as my unholy army of the night.   The rest of the time, at least at meals, it is just "my army" and we really do go through a stunning amount of food.                   For example, in late August, right around the time this photo was taken…

That's not true, I always made the pork chops, mac 'n' cheese and broccoli dinner. And what about the Wolfgang Puck electric grill? Oh yea, let us not forget the braised lamb shanks, braised beef ribs and other treats that I made with the dutch oven I got you for christmas a few years back - do you even know where we keep it ? :)

Of course I know where we keep it. I do the dishes, don't I?
