Where's the Landslide, Pat?

Back in January, Pat Robertson pronounced to the world that God himself had told him it was going to be a blowout for Bush:

I think George Bush is going to win in a walk. I really believe I'm hearing from the Lord it's going to be like a blowout election in 2004.

Now, I think we can all agree that one of the closest elections in history can hardly qualify as a blowout. So what happened, Pat? Was the Lord not omnipotent enough to make sure it happened? Was he not omniscient enough to get the prediction correct? Or could you just be a fraud and a conman? I'll go with the latter.

More like this

Yes folks, Pat Robertson has once again been confabbing with God and he has reported on the 700 Club that God has told him that Bush will win the 2004 election easily: "I think George Bush is going to win in a walk. I really believe I'm hearing from the Lord it's going to be like a blowout election…
Every year around this time, Pat Robertson has a meeting with god, at which god tells Pat stuff about what is going to happen in the future. After several years of this, we now know for certain that god has no idea of, or no control over, what the future brings. This is because Pat, who is…
Dru Stevenson, an associate professor at the South Texas School of Law in Houston, has linked to my post on the ACLU defending the rights of Christians. He also left a comment in response to the post that preceeded that one, which was about John Scalzi's attempt to find Christian lawyers who did…
Bill Maher showed up on Scarborough Country yesterday to explain his problems with organized religion. Since I can't improve on his eloquent and spot-on comments, I will simply reproduce them beneath the fold. Enjoy! BILL MAHER, HOST, "REAL TIME": I've always had it out for religion, for very…

You know -- someone in the media has got to get their hands on that HBO Sam Kinison special and play the part about Robertson over and over again.... Wake up Pat, it's time to go check your pressure.

Bush has already declared it to have been a blowout, and that'll be good enough for Pat.

LOL. God I miss Sam. For all his obvious flaws, he was very, very funny, and never more than when he had religion in his sights.

God got that one wrong I guess. He must have been too busy serving out eternal torture to Ghandi and Socrates for believing in the wrong religion to get an accurate read on the election results.

Or maybe even God didn't think Bush would screw up Iraq so bad.

I am sure many of these religious whack jobs will point to the "record number of votes FOR Bush" and that will be their blow out. They will conveniently omit the record number of votes AGAINST Bush.

God was too busy, I guess, affectng the outcomes of sporting events and inspiring rappers, to give W his blow out. How sad.

I think you hit the nail on the head with the earlier peice Ed discussing the two historical directions incumbants take; legacy vs bullet proof. Man I hope it's legacy.

Kinison would have been a treasure to have aournd this last election, but Hicks would have been a heavenly satirical nirvana.

Keys blames everybody except for Alan Keys and Barack Obama:

Keyes also said he did not congratulate Obama after the race was called, a tradition among politicians, because doing so would have been a "false gesture" because he believes Obama's views on issues like abortion are wicked.

Tsk. Poor Alan Keyes. Even after the shouting is over, the results are in and he's taken a bath to the tune of a 49 percentage-point loss, he's still a self-righteous twerp.

And this fool had shows on radio and/or cable
TV more than once?

Unintentional comedy lives.

Sad to say, I've already heard this bit of rhetorical handwaving more than once. As if winning by 3% constitutes a blowout by any standards, whether it be an election for dogcatcher or for President.

BTW, what will Dubya do when some of his Supreme Court nominations end up running into rough water in the House or Senate since he doesn't have the super-majority needed to rubber-stamp his appointments? Get pouty on them or something?

Congratulations that you only lost by 3.8 million votes - that's almost nothing!
Ah, sarcasm in the service of....what? What exactly did I lose by 3.8 million votes?
