Amusing Anti-ACLU Spam Mail

Last night I received a copy of an email that some of you may have seen as well. That is, if you have ignorant friends or relatives who like to forward you breathless and overblown emails with titles like "Reclaim America as a Christian Nation!" or "The ACLU Must Be Stopped!". This particular one had a picture of a crowd of US Marines with their heads bowed in prayer and under the picture it said:

If you look closely at the picture above, you will note that all the Marines pictured are bowing their heads. That's because they're praying!

This incident took place at a recent ceremony honoring the birthday of the corps, and it has the ACLU up in arms. "These are federal employees," says Lucius Traveler, a spokesman for the ACLU, "on federal property and on federal time. For them to pray is clearly an establishment of religion, and we must nip this in the bud immediately."

When asked about the ACLU's charges, Colonel Jack Fessender, speaking for the Commandant of the Corps said (cleaned up a bit), "Screw the ACLU." GOD Bless Our Warriors, Send the ACLU to France."

Please send this to people you know so everyone will know how stupid the ACLU is Getting in trying to remove GOD from everything and every place in America. May God Bless America, One Nation Under GOD!

What's wrong with the picture? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING

There are only a couple minor problems with this - not a word of it is true. No such incident ever took place, the ACLU does not have and has never had any spokesman named Lucius Traveler, nor has the Marine Corps ever had a spokesman named Colonel Jack Fessender. It is a complete fiction, invented out of thin air. That does not, of course, stop the credulous from getting their dander up and forwarding it to everyone in their address book. Or from writing about it in that fine scholarly magazine, Guns and Ammo.
