Gone Fishin'

I'm out of here for the weekend, so don't expect anything new. i'm headed to Bloomfield Hills for one of our semi-annual old debate buddies reunions. We get together, eat steaks the size of hubcaps, play poker all night and have interesting conversation. This time we have two college debate coaches coming (Will Repko of MSU, who just won the national championship, and Ron Stevenson of Wayne State, whose team made the semifinals of NDT), so I suspect the Liberty University team might come up for conversation. There will also undoubtedly be much reminiscing about the late 80s debate scene and much conversation of the "whatever happened to so-and-so" and "remember the time that so-and-so blew smoke in someone's face during a debate/told a judge to eat him/got really drunk at a tournament and still won it" variety (and all three of those things are true, and all about the same person). As someone who loves inside jokes, it'll be nice to be in the company of those who get them. So everyone have a great weekend, as I'm sure I will as well.

OK one last comment from my trip to western Connecticut. One morning I flipped on the TV, and got bombarded by campaign ads that focused on the congressional race there. Real nasty ads like "so-and-so supports sex-offenders and is a friend of terrorists".
Does this story sound familiar? The narrative goes like this:
