Freethinker Sunday Sermonette: US late night TV as seen in Oz

We rarely put up the same thing twice here. Part of the fun is finding new absurdities. But by accident we again ran across this classic from the Australian Chaser's War on Everything and I laughed all over again. I know we did it before (2007), but the YouTube video was taken down. Luckily we found another one. Anyway, we've had a lot of new people come to the site since the swine flu virus decided we humans would make a suitable place to take up residence, so there's a good chance most readers didn't see it the first time. Even if you did, it's still funny. Or maybe it isn't:

Some of you may know that a publisher contacted me last year about turning a piece of short fiction I'd written from an adult perspective into a young adult novel. There are several reasons I wanted to do this - the first is that in many ways, the young adult fiction market is much more vital than…
No màs! No màs! I surrender! I give up! I tried. I really, really did try. I tried really, really hard not to look at the flaming idiocy of Bill Maher again, much less comment on it again. Here I am, in Chicago at the American College of Surgeons annual meeting, taking in all sorts of surgical…

I love the Chasers War on Everything. They've done some really interesting stuff to make politicians and preachers look like fools.

John: Jeez. That's awful. I thought that was their job. Nice to hear from you. John is an esteemed former scibiling whose blog, Evolving Thoughts is very high recommended.

We Australians thought it was their job too, but their skit on children with cancer was too close to the bone for the Powers, and they were taken off for a fortnight and now they are finishing up. Satirists always have to skate around this problem.

Well, in all fairness, and recognising that comedy is a personal thing, the Chasers haven't been very funny for a long while. A lot of pretty pathetic "knock on door and run away" stuff.

OH, they brought a dummy into a stuffy gentlemen's club!!! What ever will happen next? - uh, the door guy politely asked them to leave... They're leaving... The funny? It is here.

They can be brilliant, but they can't generate enough material for a regular show.
