Eruptions turns 1!

Happy Birthday, Eruptions!

Well, this definitely snuck up on me, but today marks the one-year anniversary for Eruptions! On May 1, 2008, I started this little blog and if anyone told me that a year later I'd be paid for the gig and getting 50,000 views a month, I would have called them nuts.

So, thank you to all the Eruptions readers and commenters - there are too many to list here, but we've had a blast discussing the eruptions at Chaiten, Redoubt, Hunga Tonga Hunga Ha'apai, Huila, Kasatochi and many many more. It is these discussions that make me realize that this blog is useful, especially in helping dispel media myths and foster dialogue between scientists and the public. I hope you've enjoyed reading Eruptions as much as I've enjoyed writing it.

Feel free to leave suggestions of how you might improve the blog, but here's to another volcanitastic year!

2009 is over! If you missed the Volcanic Year in Review, check out my summary of the volcanic events that captivated many of us over the past year. However, only one event will get the coveted 2009 Pliny for Volcanic Event of the Year. A lot of you wrote in with votes and comments - I thank you -…
It has been rather quiet on the volcano-front in the last week. Redoubt and Llaima (in spanish), after a few weeks of intense eruption, are both back on Orange Alert. News of the eruptions from Hunga Tonga Hunga Ha'apai and Fernandina is rather sparse in the details. The news of volcanism in 2009…
Here it is, my attempt to recap a year's worth of volcanic events. By no means is this supposed to capture every event, but rather the highlight/lowlights and what most captivated me during 2009. I'll be announcing the winner of the 2009 Pliny for Volcanic Event of the Year tomorrow. Waimangu…
Its been a busy week for volcanoes between the headline capturing Tongan and Alaska eruptions. Catch up on what you might have missed with the latest SI/USGS Weekly Volcano Report (for 3/18-3/24). Highlights (beyond Hunga Tonga Hunga Ha'apai and Redoubt) include: Galeras, Colombia has settled down…

Congratulations and many happy returns! You've created something great with this blog: Eruptions is inspirational, informational and invaluable. It's been a great year, here's to many more.

Happy first volcaversary. Thank you for fostering dialogue between scientists and the public. I am one member of the public who is interested in having my media myths dispelled.

I come here every day too, since I discovered you via Volcanism Blog. Before that there was a dearth of good volcanism blogs in my blog list. I am grateful for your efforts. Long may your magma chamber replenish.

Long may your magma chamber replenish.

Sounds like the old Scots greeting "Lang may yer lum reek"

Can I second (or 8th) the congratulations? Eruptions (and the Volcanism Blog) are addictive reading for this sad volcanorak

Happy eruptive birthday! From the volcanologist's perspective, let me tell you this is a precious source of information (but it's also fun to read many of the comments), and Eruptions plus Volcanism Blog should satisfy the needs of many volcanophiles out there around the world. I got hooked on volcanoes more than 35 years ago, at the age of 10, and would have given my right arm (or at least one fingernail) to have such sources of information ... back then it was the newspapers my parents brought home from their work as reporters. As you can imagine, not the best source of information at all.

Congratulations, Keep up the good work, love your blog.

Kudos to Dr. Klemetti for an informative and entertaining blog that stays on track (i.e. no drift to politics and flaming). Well done!

What a great story, and not just for the success of the team. The way they all work and volunteer together is wonderful, and teaches more about life than many of their classes.

Hi, my name is Tisha.I'm 17 and new to computer graphics. My ex-boyfriend said I wouldn't make any money at it.do you know where I can get a cheap copy of zbrush?

Things you brought up seems sensible. Nonetheless, picture this, suppose you integrated a little bit more? I am talking about, I don't want to teach how you can run your site, however what if you actually added something that can easily get people's attention? Simply like a online video or maybe a graphic or perhaps few to obtain viewers interested regarding what you are talking about.
