If you look over to you right (you may have to refresh your page or click on internal links and thus raise my pageviews to see it) you will see an ad on the right side-bar that takes you to PLoS ONE. The first 50 readers of scienceblogs who click on that ad and complete registration will receive a…
For now. When it comes down to it, benevolent dictatorship resting on a perfectly anarchistic base is the only way to go. Democracy is too easily bought. Free Market Forces do not make everything all nice and efficient and stuff. Wherever information can be OpenSource and OpenAccess it should be…

It's been a banner week for blogging advice, between John Scalzi's thoughts on comments and Bee's advice on whether to write a science blog. Both of them are worth a read, and I don't have a great deal to add, but writing the stuff I'm supposed to be writing this morning is like pulling my own…

Looks like "Too Many Tribbles" and "U Dream of Janie" go to the same place.

- SC, still not linking to my own for fear of worlds colliding

Fixed! Thanks!

SC, you will get no readers unless you advertise! Dont be embarrassed, everyone has to start somewhere!!

Yeah, Dam10N.... I didnt say 'No Okies'... but... ummmm... *squint* No Okies.

:P

After the Bar Closes

Ah well. If I ever get back enough brain to try restudying my maths, I might make a blog for it.

I guess I have to learn Latex at some point.

My reluctance isn't due to embarassment, but that's not to say that my reasons are entirely rational or valid. Perhaps sometime soon, late at night, on a very quiet thread, my link will appear here...

Sili:

Don't be afraid of the LaTeX! It's easy to learn once you get a little hands-on practice.

[insert "hands-on latex" pun here]

Oh, and WordPress offers LaTeX support on the blogs they host now.

Once you learn LaTeX, you might even find it easier to use than WYSIWYG document editors. I certainly do! (Then again, this might just be me ...) Editing math equations is certainly much faster.

Thanks Abbie.

Well, I'd say the fastness certainly depends on what sort of document you're working with. Documents containing lots of math equations are certainly faster to do in LaTeX.

I really should consider moving my blog. But won't that confuse my reader?

What was this about no okies?? No okies on the blagroll or no okies at all? Haha. I just found your blog, and I like it! You're at OU, right? I am too. I didn't know about the Darwin celebration, but now I'm excited about it! Well, hopefully I'll have time to keep reading. Thanks!

Many thanks for the inclusion! I've already drawn traffic, though that may have just been you checking to see if the link worked . . .

The blagroll works! I've already got a new comment!

Okay, so it's a spammer that homed in on some keywords in a post, and likely had nothing to do with the blagroll, but I have had my largest traffic spike in a month.

You're onto me, dr Stacey.

I've indeed been inspired by your blog (what little I've read yet) and your kind links to that webinterface thingy.

Any recommendations for something a bit shorter than The Short Guide (or whatever it is it's called)?

I am but a poor (failed) chemist, with an even poorer minor in maths. I took plenty of interesting courses, but I've alway been much too lazy to study properly, and that is not the way to go ... That's sorta kinda perhaps why I want to reread some of the old books now that I'm beating the depression and getting a bit of my old brain back. Not that I think I'm ever gonna use any of it. And I highly doubt I should have started with Algebraic Topology ...

Oh - and I can't programme either. I took an aversion to it when I realised that I had to. So I've learnt enough Python and Java to pass the two mandatory courses. And then promptly forgotten it all ... (and lost the homework to a harddiskcrash so I couldn't even use it the one time I wanted to). So much misspent time, so little time left!

Yeah ... I really should get a blog instead of whining here in Abbi's. How rude!

I think Ive added everyone whos asked (except a couple links that were dead?) If you dont see your name on here yet, leave another comment!
