Some fun

This guy is brilliant, both as a guitarist and a lyricist.

Oh, his name's Chris Smither, if you want to Google him.

My first post after moving the Island to ScienceBlogs was a list of science-themed popular songs. Not too surprisingly, there really wasn't much from which to choose. But it now gives me great pleasure to introduce to you a new tune that belongs at the top of any such list. I give you Chris Smither…
Science Scout twitter feed Just came back from a trip to Louisiana, and had a great time meeting the Faculty at LSU, eating cajun, and soaking up the Southern hospitality. Was also introduced to a great piece of music by Chris Smither, a New Orleans native (although now based in Boston) singer…
Chris Smither did a show last night as part of the Upper Merion Concert Under the Stars series. If you aren't familiar with Chris Smither's music, you should be. He's great. The pictures I took of him on stage all came out crappy but I like this one I caught of him just before the show.…

I recommend the 2000 compilation album, Live As I'll Ever Be...preceding the song "No Love Today", Smither explains about the fruit and veg sellers in New Orleans, and what a mirliton is.

I was a fan of his when he played Passim (a venue for folk music in Cambridge, MA) occasionally. Good to see him again.

John is correct-Chris Smither is not a country musician. Folk and blues (mainly blues), but not country.

Music genre identification FAIL!

Thanks, John - I really enjoyed that.
