Great. My new suburb gets bombed

I move into a new place and less than three days later, it gets bombed. Well, strictly a place around the corner got bombed. I slept right through it. Seems someone doesn't like the Hell's Angels. I had no idea their clubhouse was nearby (not that it bothers me. I'll leave them alone if they leave me alone).

Along with the rest of my crew, I entered the theater. Not just any theater, mind you, but a special effects theater. This meant that at certain points during the film your seat would vibrate ominously and a small spritz of water would shoot out from the seat in front of you. More on that later…
The infamous anti-gay legislator from Oklahoma, Sally Kern, was interviewed by the Oklahoma Daily. The story has some fine bon mots, like her definition of evolution: Kern defined evolution to me as "the process of wanting to create something or have something be perfect. Get rid of that which is…
The Bottleneck Years by H.E. Taylor Chapter 65 Table of Contents Chapter 67 Chapter 66 Arrangements, December 11, 2058 Anna was mercifully asleep when I got home. When I told Edie about Matt, she was subdued. She put her hand to her mouth and sat down quickly. Then to my surprise, her…
So, a funny story about this. I posted a snippet of a fantasy story back in August, and enough people said nice things about it that I actually got off my ass and did some playing around to format the full story as an epub. This was, of course, complicated by the fact that computers are awful, but…

Odds are, they will.

Biker feuds are usually kept "in-house" as it were. You're not part of the culture, you won't get caught up in it. Even if you do ride a bike.

However, you do run into people who'll assume you're a part of it because you look like you should be a part of it. Don't waste your time with that sort; but be sure to be erudite and courteous, just to screw with their heads.

Nearly every biker I have ever known was courteous and intelligent, until you got three or more in one place, especially if there was alcohol. I shared a house with one biker once, and as soon as the third club member came around I excused myself for eight hours, and made sure to step over the bodies when I got back, and avoid the broken glass.

But I do not look like a biker. I don't ride a Harley or a rebuilt British bike, I ride what is technically known in the trade as "Jap Crap".

They leave you alone? You wish, John. They sell guns and drugs. How long until they get in a gun fight either at their clubhouse or during the escape from the clubhouse and the stray bullets come after you?

Well, Sydney was always far more "interesting" than Brisbane or Melbourne. At least now you don't have to worry about being swept away in a cyclone!

Polonius, why the link?

Aerik: Hells Angels, if they break the law, should be brought to account. But I am not the guy to do it, OK? Apart from anything else, I have a son living with me...

Greg, was what a hybrid? The bomb?

Sorry if the broken link made the reference more cryptic than I intended. I was referring to an amusing story that Wikipedia describes as "apocryphal". It is alleged that the small town of Berwick-upon-Tweed, on the border between Scotland and England, was at war with Russia from 1853 until 1966.

Your "I'll leave them alone if they leave me alone" reminded me of the mayor of Berwick's "Please tell the Russian people that they can sleep peacefully in their beds."

In the article the claim is made that the Vatican has backed a declaration that proclaims that "It is not permitted to spread falsehood or disseminate that which involves encouraging abomination or *forsaking the Islamic community.*" Since the current Pope publicly baptized a former Muslim last Easter, I somehow doubt the claim of Vatican support for such a declaration.
