Yahoo Mail "Beta" sucks

I work on two machines in the mid-to-high 2 Ghz range with 1 gig of RAM on a regular basis. And yet the new YAHOO MAIL "Beta" has consistently crashed and throttled Firefox multiple times within the last few days. If your AJAX app does this you're worse than Microsoft.

Client: Is my app Web 2.0TM©® ready???
Me: Oh yeah baby, you won't be able to find a desktop it won't crash!

I might. This is a preliminary look, based just on the web site and some tweets with the developer, of the imp (all lower case), a small computer somewhere in technology and power, perhaps, between a Raspberry pi (which is mainly a hobbiest toy) and the Intel Nuk (which is sort of a non-Mac Mac…
During my summer blogging break, I thought I'd repost of few of my "greatest hits" from my old blog, just so you all wouldn't miss me so much. This one is from September 3, 2008. There was some nice discussion on Friendfeed that's worth checking out. ===== Some recent posts that got me thinking…
The deadline is approaching for you to submit your preferences for the Linux Journal Readers' Choice Awards. For purposes of discussion, here are (most of my) choices: Best Linux Distro: I'm sticking with Ubuntu, even though I'm increasingly annoyed at several aspects of it. I chose Unbuntu…
A question for the Firefox users: How do I make Firefox on a PC use something other than Adobe Acrobat to read PDF files? Background: Opera is my browser of choice for web surfing, but I use Firefox for accessing GMail, Movable Type, and a few other sites that don't play well with Opera, and…

Is 2 gig Mhz like 2 Ghz?

The most useful Yahoo Mail features that doesn't exist, but should, is the ability to download all attachments as one zip file. Working as an instructor who gets assignments and projects emailed as students, multi-attachment emails are terribly time consuming (click-virus scan-choose folder-save-repeat-repeat-repeat).

Yeah, I'm not too happy with the Yahoo Mail Beta, either but it doesn't seem to crash my Mac I work on.

It's a mismatch. What is an Alpha male like you doing with a Beta mail application?

It's only crashed on me only a few times. The spam filter, however, has gone to hell. I keep getting spam in my inbox, when just a few weeks it rarely got in.

I'm back to old-style Yahoo webmail. Works fine for me! BetaMail didn't crash me, but it seemed about five levels too deep and complex -- ie., it labored over every tiny task I gave it to do. Who wants that from a webmail application? Simple and speedy, that's what I'm looking for. That's what I've got in standard-issue Yahoo Mail, come to think of it...

(I came following your comment in Developing Intelligence-thank you for the link to such a fun paper on prefrontal & brain sizes).

Who knew that one day I would find a blog where "The reality of epistasis" was a happy neighbour to "Yahoo Mail "Beta" sucks"...

Very fun reading.
