As my friend Chet Snicker would say to Larry Craig, you sir are no gentleman! Some of you know that I have recently trekked across this great nation of ours. One of the main differences between the most recent of my travels and previous peregrinations has been my relative trepidation and discomfort in public restrooms. Every time I was in a stall and a fellow citizen in distress entered to relieve themselves adjacent I could not help myself from wondering about the appearance of the infamous "wide stance." Gladly I was not faced with such a disquieting circumstance, but it is striking to me that the travails of one man could so alter the public consciousness of such a mundane act.

Ok, I can't resist. What do people think of Larry Craig's arrest for ostensibly soliciting sex in a men's room? He's denying he did anything wrong.
Tuesday, in his first public statement on the arrest, the Idaho Republican said he did nothing "inappropriate."
"Let me be clear: I am not gay and…
Kitties experience pain and suffering, which turns out to be a theological problem. If a god introduced pain and death into the world because wicked ol' Eve was disobedient, why is god punishing innocent animals? It seems like a bit of a rotten move to afflict the obedient along with the…
Idaho Republican Senator Larry Craig continues to wage his lonely and courageous effort to clear himself from charge his "wide stance" toilet habits led to the unjust accusation he was actually engaged in soliciting sex from a man in the next stall (who turned out to be an undercover police…
I hadn't intended to turn this into assisted dying week, but that's how it's turning out.
After his recent debate with Christian apologist William Lane Craig, Sean Carroll expressed frustration that the debate followed a certain pattern. Craig would make an argument, then Carroll would rebut it,…
What's Chet been up to these days?
his job at an investment bank in minneapolis keeps him rather busy...i keep bugging him to blog.
What's Chet been up to these days?
sir,
i must say that your query leaves me a bit out of sorts. as razib suggests i do have a blog, but i have been sorely remiss in my visitations. alas, the truth is that yes, my chosen profession leaves me in possession of only a paltry amount of marginal time. and with the hours gifted to me my efforts have been focused upon salon personals!
sincerely,
c.v. snicker
p.s. if there are any of the fairer sex who wish to leave a calling card, i can be reached at chetsnicker -at- gmail -dot- com. additionally, i would request that all interested parties reside within 60 miles of the minneapolis-st. paul metropolitan area.
Is it really that scary that a gay man might be trying to very discreetly solicit consensual sex in a public restroom you happen to be in? I'm not defending the practice, it is a bit creepy, but hey, even if they are in the 'wide stance', if you're not gay, it isn't directed at you. Just imagine if you were a woman, men would try to have sex you (often much less discreetly) everywhere but the bathroom.
I think it's very telling that 3 weeks after this broke, under intense media coverage, and not one single person has come forward to claim to have had a homosexual encounter with Craig. Even the 8 month investigation by his hometown newspaper came up only with a single, unnamed, and, as characterized by the newspaper, unreliable source who thinks he had an encounter sometime in 2004.
Let's think about giving this guy the benefit of the doubt for a minute.
