I've used the gtk frontend to recordMyDesktop with much success. I like the fact that it will also record audio from an ALSA, OSS, or JACK source to go with the recorded video. I will have to take a look at Istanbul and xvidcap if for nothing else than to see how they work with my Ubuntu setup.
