Obama hung in effigy

"This is a white Christian nation, and only white Christians should be in power. "

The man's name is Mike Lunsford, in case you missed it.

There's much discussion and analysis of Obama's speech yesterday. I continue to be amazed, as I look at Obama's speeches, simply that they are written with complete paragraphs, and not (as in so many speeches, even Hillary's) with a single sentence per paragraph. That is how Obama thinks, and I…
Whenever you see a religious right apologist claiming that America was founded as a "Christian nation", you inevitably find them defining the nation not from the point it was founded - the time of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution - but from the time of the colonies that were…
At least, that is the conclusion you would inevitably come to if you read Town Hall on a regular basis. The wesbite that boasts of being the first conservative web community seems to have a yen for anti-atheist propaganda. For example, here's Mike Adams in a column entitled, “Understanding Atheism…

"Misspelled" olive it!

it's the jewish star on the head that puzzles me. is "husain obama" supposed to be jewish?

dang.......when they first showed the map I was hoping it wouldn't be in Ohio. Anybody in the area could check out the Obama ghost and the creation museum all in one day!

/writes "Lunsford, Michael, Ohio" in a book with the label "First With Their Backs To The Wall"

Thank you, Local 12, for giving one member of The Base(tm) the humiliation he so richly deserves.

So we have two ignoramuses broadcasting: the guy who hanged the Obama ghost, and the guy with Obama being chased by the KKK-dressed McCain.
Sigh.
When was the last time someone went broke betting against the stupidity of others?

Its hanged not hung

eatshootsandleaves: Maybe. Obama himself is not hanged (that would be hanged) The effigy was. So does this quirky thing where we Aunt Millie hung the picture of Uncle Ruben but Uncle Rubin was Hanged for his crime may not apply....

(Though it probably does)

Any opinions on this?

Hanged is preferred but not required for humans, according to The Grammar Girl (Just happen to look that up the other day. Never mind why).

I believe andrew is technically correct, generally a person is hanged, but a person may have hung himself, and after they are dead they may have hung there for a while after being hanged. I think the differentiation tends to be based on who is hanging whom. a hanging is something that you do to someone else, a technical term for the homicidal act.

but from the great philosopher Mel Brooks,

[Bart returns unexpectedly after being sentenced to death]
Charlie: They said you was hung.
Bart: And they was right.

Blazing Saddles

But I'm sure that would be seen as playing up a stereotype...

Peter: To be honest, that (scene in that movie) is exactly the first thing I thought of when this was brought up Eats. The hanged/hung distinction has a purpose.

WotthefuckingFUCK?!?!?!?!?!?!

This stuff scares the shit out of me. Every time I see something like this, I think of my black brother-in-law and my niece and nephew. It hits even closer to home when I think of John's dad being shot by white racist asshats back in the 50s. He knew his attackers and was able to give their names to the police before he died, but I don't think anyone ever did anything about it.

I've heard it said that the US is high on the list of the most racist countries in the world, if not the most racist. The usual reason given is the overwhelmingly racial nature of slavery here. It's damned difficult to get rid of the notion of black people as inferior and pieces of property after a couple of centuries of essentially the entire culture of half the country being based on that notion.

The public prominence of a highly educated, successful, self-made African-American man still sets up all kinds of unbearable cognitive dissonance in people like Lunsford. He can't handle the fact that a member of an intrinsically "inferior" race has worked his way up to a position of prestige and admiration entirely on his own merits, and the only way he knows to "handle" it is to lash out in sheer frustration.
