Are You Left- or Right-Brained?

This test (below the fold) tells you a little bit about your personality, although I don't think it is very accurate.

You Are 60% Left Brained, 40% Right Brained

The left side of your brain controls verbal ability, attention to detail, and reasoning.
Left brained people are good at communication and persuading others.
If you're left brained, you are likely good at math and logic.
Your left brain prefers dogs, reading, and quiet.

The right side of your brain is all about creativity and flexibility.
Daring and intuitive, right brained people see the world in their unique way.
If you're right brained, you likely have a talent for creative writing and art.
Your right brain prefers day dreaming, philosophy, and sports.

What was your score? What did you think of the questions? I thought some of the questions were really stupid, for example, question 10; When you talk, you: Choose your words carefully or Use your hands a lot. How should you answer if you do both, or neither? In my opinion, question 18 was equally stupid; When someone's upset with you, you tend to listen to: How they're saying it or What they're saying. How about .. both?

So how did you answer those questions?

And what do you guess is the point for this question; You tend to have your best ideas when you are: Sitting up versus Lying down.

A few of my recent posts here appear to have struck some nerves, and I've been getting lots of annoying email containing the same questions, over and over again. So rather than reply individually, I'm going to answer them here in the hope that either (a) people will see the answers before send the…
Here is a serious problem: Here's the thing, Gabriela: You will never need to know algebra. I have never once used it and never once even rued that I could not use it. You will never need to know—never mind want to know—how many boys it will take to mow a lawn if one of them quits halfway and two…
A little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing. There's no shortage of stupidity in the world. And, alas, it comes in many, many different kinds. Among the ones that bug me, pretty much the worst is the stupidity that comes from believing that you know something that you don't. This is…
The brain is like a Swiss Army knife, stuffed full of different mental tools that are well suited to different situations. Sometimes, we want to flex the prefrontal cortex, and really exert our rational muscles. And then there are other situations (like picking a strawberry jam) where thinking too…

Here's one combination of questions that really annoyed me.

Number 4 asks, "You prefer to: Do many things at once; or Focus on one task at a time." But then Number 14 asks, "When you have a lot to do, what do you do first? The hard things;
The easy things."

Well, since I prefer to do many things at once, that means that when I have a lot to do, I mix up the hard ones and the easy ones. I'll do some easy ones for relief from the hard ones. Duh.

Oh, and Number 7: "You tend to: Lose things; Keep things in their place." Well, actually, I tend to be pretty messy. However, I don't lose things because I have a pretty good memory, to the point that, if you ask me where some particular paper is, I can find the right stack and know about how far down to look.

I was 45% Left and 55% right.

Annoying questions were:

Are you more:
Mathematical
Musical

Dunno - both probably

Also: When someone's upset with you, you tend to listen to:

How they're saying it
What they're saying

how about I tune out completely?

And
Do you listen to music while you work?
Yes
No

How about sometimes? I listen when I'm in the lab, I occasionally do when I am in my office.

What's with the Left Brain liking dogs? Where does that come from? Which side of my brain likes my cat?

90% lefty! I had never thought of my self as an extrem-leftist.

Aargh! What's with these questions?

Look at your desk... right now, it is:
* A total mess
* Pretty organized

I mean, really, they just don't get it. My desk is an organized mess. It sure looks like a mess, but I know right where everything is. If I cleaned up, I wouldn't be able to find anything. That question must have been written by someone who is lame-brained.

Which statement reflects your beliefs more?
* I have a strong sense of right and wrong
* What's right (or wrong) depends on the situation

That's a very badly formed question. Both alternatives are true.

Algebra vs. Geometry: give me a freakin break. In college I sat through a class where the prof filled the board with derivations - twice. As class ended, he turned to the students and said, "the rest is just calculus."

I got 50/50. Exactly how I usually describe myself too. Clearly I don't fit into many stereotypes well. and which of those descriptors describes me? all of them? half of each? (which half??)

i am also curious like Lab Cat which side of my brain likes my kitty.
