Baffling Sea Serpent?

tags: ,

Underwater videographer Jay Garbose was diving near Juno Beach, Florida when his camera caught an unusual creature that some call a sea serpent. Jay says when I first saw the giant worm like creature I thought it was a sea cucumber...then I realized how big it was.

The creature, which measured between seven and ten feet, has baffled scientists who have seen the video.

Okay, here it is in its own window.

More like this

Scientists are "baffled" by the discovery of a strange worm-like, serpentine creature off the cost of Juno Beach in Florida. Diver Jay Garbose caught the 7-10 foot creature on film as it slithered around the ocean floor. Watch his astonishing video footage.Unidentifiably delicious! Garbose has…
Welcome to sea monster week. Yes, a whole week devoted to the discussion and evaluation of photos purportedly showing marine cryptids, or carcasses of them. Why do this? I'm not entirely sure, but it seemed like a good idea at the time. We begin with a fantastic image that - hopefully - you've…
As a marine biologist by training, I naturally love the ocean and just about everything in it. So it is such a treat for me to be able to just go out and enjoy what I love. Right now, I'm in between my last job as a simple graduate and being a full time graduate student, so I've got a little free…

Clicking gets me "This video is no longer available."

The whole "This video is no longer available." thing has happened to a ton of videos over the past week, looks like Google is going crazy with the takedown notices now that the lawsuits have come pouring in. Any clip containing any image, sound or figure of speech vaguely related to anything copyrighted is doomed!

This one was filmed near "Juno" Beach so doubtless violates the IP of the creators of Saving Private Ryan somehow...

For those who got to see it, is the video as creepy as the crazy crinoid critter on Pharyngula?

thanks ken for posting that active link. i guess youtube is becoming unreliable these days!

It appears that Jay slightly turned up the "baffled scientists" angle. From another forum that I frequent, one of the worm experts commented:

"I was discussing that yesterday with Jon Norenberg, the nemertean expert at the Smithsonian, who reviewed the video. He was very clear that it was a nemertean that couldn't be identified even to family because the head wasn't visible in any of the footage and that's what he told the videographer. Looks as if the guy decided to make it sound a little more sensational. Jon's just glad his name wasn't mentioned in connection with the story.....
