This is some sort of Skipper butterfly on a thistle flower, photographed on Konza Prairie July 2007. I don't know the species, but it is common and perhaps some of your readers can ID it.

I spotted a Red Admiral today and happened to have my field guide out. I think this is a Delaware Skipper. The photo in the Audubon guide looks more orangish yellow than this one, not as bright, but all the other characteristics match. Here's a quote:

"Although widespread, the Delaware Skipper seldom appears to be common. Populations may differ in color as well as in behavior at different times of day."
