It...it's the Ivory-billed Woodpecker!!!

not. I've been to Eagle River, and I think there are Gray Jays up there, so that's my guess (without using any references).

"Red-breasted Nuthatch."

Correct. One of my favorite birds. It took them a while to get used to the click and flash from my camera.

For anyone who is interested, I used a Canon 5D with a 60mm macro lens and a twin macro flash that mounts to the end of the lens.

I have some older pictures on my web site if anyone wants to see them: web.mac.com/alaskaphotos

I have not had the time and/or energy to update my site since June, but I hope to get to it one day...

Correction - I used a 100mm macro lens (Canon EF-100mm f:2.8 USM macro lens to be exact)

I guessed Red-breasted Nuthatch also, thanks for the challenge. Nice photo anyway,.

Shows what I know.
We had a red-breasted nuthatch in our backyard in Eastern Pennsylvania a year or two ago--very cool bird.

Dang, I finally know one and I'm too late. Great picture! rb

Dang, I finally know one too!
How did I know? I once held a White-breasted in my hand, from bird banding, and it lost a tail feather while still in my hand!! I figure the Red-breasted must have similar tail feathers.
