I receive a fair number of books to review each week, so I thought I should do what several magazines and other publications do; list those books that have arrived in my mailbox so you know that this is the pool of books from which I will be reading and reviewing on my blog.
A Portrait of the Brain by Adam Zeman (New Haven: Yale University Press; 2008). Seed Media Group sent this book to me to review.
Tomorrow's Table: Organic Farming, Genetics, and the Future of Food by Pamela C. Ronald and R. W. Adamchak (NYC: Oxford University Press; 2008). The authors contacted me about reviewing this book, and it just arrived in my mailbox last week.
50 Reasons People Give for Believing in a God by Guy P. Harrison (Amherst, NY: Prometheus Books; 2008). The author contacted me about reviewing this book awhile ago, and of course, this is a topic that I tend to read about quite a bit, and I try to review all the books on this topic that are published, because it interests me and also because the topic pisses people off.
The Lizard King: The True Crimes and Passions of the World's Greatest Reptile Smugglers by Bryan Christy (NYC: Twelve Press; 2008). I picked this book up in the Seed Media Group offices this past weekend and was stunned that they hadn't sent me a review copy. This is a topic that really makes my blood boil, and the book looks like it provides a very thorough investigation.
Wesley the Owl: The Remarkable Story of an Owl and His Girl by Stacey O'Brien (NYC: Free Press; 2008). I picked this book up at the Seed Media Group offices this past weekend. If you'd seen the cover of the book, well, you'd want to read it, too! I'll bet that Harry Potter fans would really like this book.
The Blue Butterfly (2004) is a DVD that was recommended to me by an avicultural friend.

Are those your bookshelves in the background of the pic?! I'm impressed. I think you should blog a catalog of your books (in 3D!). That oughta keep you out of trouble for a while!
indeed! pissed off people = lots of comments. but atheism offends and fascinates people to no end.
and no, that isn't a pic of my books. my books are stacked two deep on my shelves, which cover only one wall in my bedroom, and one wall in the kitchen.
That book about atheism is one I might have to pick up (assuming Borders in Australia has it.) I go to a Christian school (they are much more common (and much less fundamental) in Australia then in other places) and I hear heaps of things for the argument of God (especially the 'evolution is only a theory' argument that bores me to no end.)

I just sorted my books, and despite the new bookshelf, I still have too many books. At least I have more available floor space now.

actually, one of my cat clients has a really cool series of shelves that i'd love to get. It's a metal pole that stretches from the floor to the ceiling, with flat metal plates protruding from it that you can stack books or DVDs or whatever on. that would solve a few of my bookshelf problems (at least, for awhile).
Whoever dies with the most books wins.
