Extreme Sheep LED Art

tags: , , ,

This video is an example of what happens when men spend too much time in the company of dogs, sheep, LEDs and a camera while in the hills of Wales: they create a huge amazing LED display. Erm, of sorts [2:44]

More like this

Pathetic, exploitative, peurile, wasteful of resources. Arrogant and unfeeling use of animals as toys. Disgusting. Just because technology exists to create and disseminate this sort of gratuitous exploitation does not make it right to do so.

Pathetic, exploitative, peurile, wasteful of resources

You seem angry. Precisely what resources are being wasted? They don't throw the sheep out after they do this.

It's playful sportive art. Are you against any expenditure of time or energy in the service of art or sport?

Do you agree that traditional herding is more environmentally sound than factory farming? Do you agree that this exposition of excellence and skill promotes appreciation of traditional herding as skilled occupation and helps to recruit and develop the skills of subsequent generations of shepherds and sheep dogs?

The promotion and development of these sorts of technical skills helps to attract attention and appreciative of herding with dogs as a viable animal husbandry option. Or would you rather that all our textiles be made with oil (plastics), pesticide soaked fields (cotton), and all our meat come from factory farms fueled by petroleum subsidized intensive agriculture?

Where I come from most of our meat comes from factory farms and/or is shipped long distances. And local wool... not really a big player. The few people who do raise sheep have lost the art of herding. Instead they are inefficient and resort to culling predators and government subsidies (include compensation for sheep killed by predators).

No, not angry, just sad. I admire the skill and dedication of the dogs and their handlers. I have attended many sheepdog trials and have been amazed at the partnership between animal and human. I come from a farm family and have raised sheep and chickens and eaten them, too. I prefer small farms and traditional methods for providing our food and clothing. What I object to the exploitation of these animals -- the sheep -- as toys for our amusement. I did not think it was funny -- I found it very sad. The waste of resources referred to the plastic lights -- how many sets were used here? The more of that junk we buy, the more will be manufactured and distgributed.

You think that's bad? You should see Christmas.

I don't see all the fuss about exploiting sheep. they're fricking sheep for Christ's sake. It's not like they're lives are going to amount to anything more exciting than this. attaching lights to livestock does not amount to animal cruelty. If you're one of those people who dresses up their dog and feeds it sirloin steak and what's good, then there's something wrong with YOU. relax.

Also, this:
"I do mean only that portion of the population that wears a penis"
is totally uncalled for. Don't play the f*cking gender card here. They're bored rednecks.

i love you guys. you have made me laugh numerous times -- what greater gift is there than the gift of laughter?

Hard to see how the sheep are being exploited here. I suspect they're quite accustomed to being herded by dogs and for all we know may derive a kind of pleasure from running in a pack. The light apparatuses don't look as though they inflict suffering, and the shepherds (at least on video) appear kindly enough.

Perhaps an argument can be made that the lights themselves were a wasteful purchase. If we want to follow through on that logic, we should immediately stop watching television and going to movies, because those are much more wasteful of visually exciting effects.

Yo! Mr Tree I'd like you meet The Forest.

What's happening here is the discussion of a new art form created by new tools and presented in a new media.

And there nothing as attractive as the chance for a new experience. It can scarey. But the Life unlived scares me.

I Loved this and shared it with many of my students here in Australia. Thank you
Cheers Jan
