Lilacs.
Photographed on Manhattan's Upper West Side.
When I lived in beautiful Seattle, there were lilac bushes in my yard, and mostly everywhere else, too. So every day, I would cut fresh lilac flowers for my little house (which I shared with 46 lories) and the entire place smelled glorious. It is the smell of lilacs that mean spring to me.

... And a hard-boiled egg...
I enjoy the science, the politics, the well deserved bashings of jenny and oprah and the various creationists antics that make up a typical day on sciblogs.
Still, there is a lot to be said for just taking some time to appreciate the beauty that is all around us. You never seem to lose sight of that. You have a very artistic eye and have posted a number of very beautiful and well-composed flower photographs this spring. Thank you
