Arikia, who was our witness at City Hall yesterday, sent us this song on blip.fm. I've never heard this song before, but the lyrics are almost as though it was written for my guy and I:
"Brand New Colony"
I'll be the grapes fermented,
Bottled and served with the table set in my finest suit
Like a perfect gentlemen
I'll be the fire escape that's bolted to the ancient brick
Where you will sit and contemplate your day
I'll be the waterwings that save you if you start drowning
In an open tab when your judgment's on the brink
I'll be the phonograph that plays your favorite
Albums back as you're lying there drifting off to sleep...
I'll be the platform shoes and undo what heredity's done to you...
You won't have to strain to look into my eyes
I'll be your winter coat buttoned and zipped straight to the throat
With the collar up so you won't catch a cold
I want to take you far from the cynics in this town
And kiss you on the mouth
We'll cut our bodies free from the tethers of this scene,
Start a brand new colony
Where everything will change,
We'll give ourselves new names (identities erased)
The sun will heat the grounds
Under our bare feet in this brand new colony
Everything will change, oOo oOo...
I'd love to know what other songs you think are especially romantic, so please do share them in the comments here.

Roxy Music, "More Than This" from Avalon.
Congratulations!
* throws virtual rice, confetti, rose petals, other celebratory flingables *
A fascinatingly oblique announcement, even if one likely to send a select group of bachelors around the world into fits of depression and jealousy.
And a total surprise - doubly so, since after the first nine words, I at least was suspected the next name to be named would be rather more Teutonic...
Felicitations all around!
Oh, and romantic songs? How 'bout Manuel de Falla's "El Amor Brujo"?
"Love Reign O'er Me," by The Who.
"Wild Horses," as sung by The Sundays.
Hey, # 3 was much too lazy: that shoulda been, "The Sorceror Love", aka "El Amor Brujo"?
Congratulations and I wish you Happiness, Peace and Prosperity! (This is from an inscription on a wedding gift my parents received)
My favourite romantic songs:
White Dress - Fairport Convention
Wild Mountain Thyme - Byrds
Wouldn't It Be Nice - Beach Boys
Soon - George Gershwin
Showing my age, here...
i'm surprised no one said "when i'm 64" (the beatles), or "wildwood weed" (jim stafford)
(grin)
Mazal tov! For a romantic song, I'll go with Margaret's Waltz, which is just an instrumental and has no words that I know of.
Blind Pilot - Paint or Pollen
Congratulations on your marriage!
My favorite romantic songs:
True Companion - Marc Cohn
Perfect Love - Marc Cohn
Power of Two - Indigo Girls
T. Bruce McNeely -- i LOVE george gershwin! but i've never heard the song you suggested until just now, when i played it on blip.fm -- you are correct, that is a very rrrromatico song!
thanks for the suggestions everyone! i will work my way through the list and play them all on blip before long, but for now, i have to feed the birds and get out of the apartment for something to eat (although fruits, nuts and berries are fine too, i suppose).
The Masochism Tango by Tom Lehrer
Sweet Little Blossom of Mine by Henry Phillips
It's hard to find songs about dinoflagellates.
Congratulations! Knew there had to be a reason for all those trips...!!
(One day maybe it'll be my turn...?!)
Romantic songs... I know my choices won't be terribly good, my hearing means I favour simpler music with strong lyrics or solo instruments; orchestral or complex music is just plain confusing to me. So nothing classical from me! I like jazz/blues, too :-) So a few random choices in case any by chance strike a chord with you. On the old-fashioned jazz/blues side: Strangers in the Night (my parents met in similar fashion to the couple in the song), Just the way you look tonight. Sad, but good in it's own way: Every time we say goodbye. "Pop": Something so right (Simon & Garfunkel), Never say goodbye (Hayley Westerna does a cover of this; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YNlpxJO1Uiw).
The blog software has appended ').' to that URL, sorry about that.
Don't have any song suggestions, but wishing you every happiness.
Congratulations to you and your fella.
I tend to like my romantic songs with a touch of bitterness in them. There are a couple of good ones on Johnny Cash's "American IV" album: "In My Life", originally by The Beatles, and "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face", written by Ewan MacColl. Whilst I love Cash's covers, there are some more joyful versions around.
"One and Only" by Teitur
perfection set to music. congratulations.
I'm with Connie: "More Than This" by Roxie Music still does it for me...
AARGH!! I thought I fixed that to ROXY.
So I'll add: "My Handy Man"
(Chock-full of double-entendre.)
Here's Alberta Hunter:

Whoever said a good man is hard to find
Positively absolutely sure was blind
I've found the best man there ever was
Here's just some of the things that my man does...
You'll LOVE this song by a new artist named Meiko. The name is Reasons to Love you.

Here is the link to Meiko's song.
Wow.
But has Some enchanted evening, from South Pacific, disappeared from collective memory? And have folk songs like Barbara Allen been lost too?
"Sleeping Beauty" or "Three Libras" by A Perfect Circle.
What can I say, I'm not very good with finding romantic music...
I realized I must've missed something, went back to the Germany post and went "Oh."
Anyways, I don't have music suggestions, but congrats Grrl! I wish you all happiness :)
